Garage Inc.

Most of the covers on the second disc of course, kickass. (The Motorhead covers are actually what got me into them!) The first disc...it wasn't so much the choice of songs (except for that piece of shit Loverman, probably turned me away from Nick Cave forever), it was the sound of the band at the time. The guitars sounded less heavy and slicker, and James is in full blown country singer mode, so all that combined makes some of the songs really Load-esque and shitty (Turn the Page, Whisky In The Jar, Loverman). The Mercyful Fate medley was pretty kick-ass though.

Discuss.

The covers from their singles around the time of AJFA - Breadfan, The Prince, Stone Cold Crazy - are outstanding. And so are the tracks from Garage Days Re-Revisited.

I actually don't enjoy the Motorhead covers very much. I love Breadfan, So What, Stone Cold Crazy, all the Diamond Head ones, Astronomy, Turn The Page, Sabbra Cadabra and the Mercyful Fate Medley. I'd rather they'd recorded a proper studio version of Tuesday's Gone though, instead of using the one from that radio show.

The Small Hours is the stand-out for me.

Major turkeys: Free Speach For The Dumb, Loverman, Crash Course In Brain Surgery.

Whiskey In The Jar, Astronomy, and Stone Cold Crazy are probably my favorites, but I really enjoy almost all of the stuff on there.

I really don't like the Whiskey in the Jar cover. Metallica covering Thin Lizzy in general is just not a good idea.

I used to hate that song cos I thought the lyrics were incredibly stupid. In fact it wasn't until you recently mentioned that it was the "best Metallica cover" (which I still don't agree with), that I decided to check it out again. I was clearly proven wrong, as it had the second greatest bitchin NWOBHM riff I've heard!
