QUEENSRYCHE unveils details about new album

Taken from a Myspace blog post:

Quote:
LOS ANGELES — Queensr˙che is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on their 12th studio album, AMERICAN SOLDIER. The concept album, due this spring from Rhino/Atco, finds the band once again tackling some heavy subject matter, this time focusing on telling the story of war from a firsthand perspective. Singer and chief songwriter Geoff Tate has spent the last few years conducting extensive interviews with veterans and has crafted their thoughts into this epic tale. AMERICAN SOLDIER examines American wars from World War II through Iraq from the viewpoint of those in the trenches and on the frontlines. Following the album's release, Queensr˙che plan to present tracks from the album live on an extensive spring tour of the U.S., with international dates to follow later in 2009. The first date of the tour will be a hometown gig at Seattle's Snoqualmie Casino on April 16.

"Queensr˙che has always had incredible support from members of the Armed Services," says Tate. "It seems like after every show, I'd end up speaking with a fan that was or had been involved with the military. The more and more I began to hear their accounts and feelings, the more I really felt a conviction to tell their story. Over the last two years, I've conducted dozens of one-on-one interviews with veterans of many different American wars. I listened to their amazing and moving recounts and did my best to examine war through their eyes."
Am I the only one who thinks this is gonna be awful?

AMERICAN SOLDIER

Way to pull a Kid Rock/Drowning Pool. When can we expect the Queensryche National Guard commercial?

Umm, okay. I'll give it a listen because it's a Queensryche album, but my expectations are low.

I'm expecting to  at this, but still enjoy it to a certain extent. Hopefully Queensryche will surprise me, in fact, that's what I like 'em for. So... Keeping my fingers crossed.

Im optimistic. atleast hes done "extensive" interviews with real soldiers before writing it instead of just watching Gettysburg. even though mindcrime ii sortas blows i think this might be good. i would like to see more concept songs about technological dystopia tho.

Mindcrime 2 definitely drags from about midway thru til the end.

but extensive interviews might give the music a better feel for the actual soldier experience. well, i'm hoping.

I'm also hoping that the tracks on this new release will be individual stories vs the whole album telling one story (like Mindcrime).

All the interviews in the world aren't going to help the fact that Queensryche haven't written a decent album in almost 15 years.

Yet I can't think of a better word to describe Mindcrime II than "decent."
