You've Got Another Thing Coming

I don't feel I have much to report, so I'm gonna keep this short and sweet. I left the house around 5 o' clock thinking it was only gonna take 2 hours to get there. More like 3, and that does not include the complicated parking process of an Indian casino. As a result I missed Testament (who I actually wanted to give a chance to) and "The Mob Rules." I'm not so bummed about the latter considering Sabbath downtunes everything and that riff sounds like its being raped.

Rather than complain about how bands do that til the end of time, I've decided to half turn over a leaf and try and listen to what songs still sound listenable. "Heaven & Hell" and "Neon Knights" sounded the best. (I can imagine that we got Knights as a result of Motorhead being a no-show ) I also found it nifty that the droning effects during the verses of "Sign Of The Southern Cross" are done by Geezer's bass.

Priest. You know it didn't occur to me until last night, but this set checks out perfectly as a "rarities show." Pretty much everyone of the rare songs hasn't been played in either on their mother tour or in ten years. Not to mention that Glenn and KK nailed every memorable nuance of their solos. Rob...sounded fine to me. By my standards anyway, which were ridiculously low. I'm sure some would complain that he isn't even trying to hit the notes anymore, or that his new falsetto is awful to listen to, but hey, I was cool with it. Then Scott. All I can say is ever since I first heard Painkiller, I'm very happy he's still in the band 18 (!) years later. The more times I hear him live, the more technical I realize he is. Especaily with rhythm. He turns the intro to "Painkiller" into a cocktease of sorts. If/when you've seen Priest on this tour, you'll know what I'm getting at.

Even though older folks made up the majority of the shows audience, I didn't consider this a nostalgia show at all, especially with all the rarities being played. It's one thing to see "Between The Hammer & the Anvil" written on a website, but to see it played live, Jesus butt-fucking christ!! Most of the audience were into the rare songs too, which is nice motivation for keeping the songs in as opposed to reverting back to "Victim Of Changes" for the 124,430th time. Not to mention that after Nostradamus, I don't think any open-minded folk are gonna question Priests ability to put out anything new.

Addendum: Thanks for the title fix, mods.
George W. Bush is the son of a swine. I hope that one day his body is identified by the teeth marks on my penis.

last night (8/16/08) heaven and hell encored w/ neon nights after the extended version of heaven and hell. so i guess that was intended to be the encore for the tour and they didn't play it the first few nights b/c of curfew or something

is prophecy off nostradomus? i'm not a priest fan. the 1st song they played had lyrics about nostradumus, possibly even the title track? i dunno, like i said not a priest guy. left after that song so i don't know their setlist.

i think motorhead and testament did the same set as listed

They were suppose to have done Neon Knights each night but ran out of time some. They did it at the VA show but not the NJ show I was at.

All the sets were the same in Pittsburgh except Testament did Henchmen Ride instead of Souls of Black.

Prophecy is a new song.

Talking the sound

i know after a few (too many) beers, that things always sound a bit funny.... okay, we missed testament entirely due to the booze factor. however, the first half of the heaven and hell setlist sounded a bit unclear, like too much reverb or something. but it got fixed half way through, and no, i don't think i was sobering up....
heaven and hell was great, dio hit the right notes, iommi and butler were great as well. vinny's solo was, well, vinny's solo. i saw these guys last year, even met them, and i would say there were equally as good, with the exception of the sound through the first half. i also timed the song heaven and hell, a cool 12 minutes, plus. nice to see neon nights. they played for just a little over an hour.
my first time seeing priest..... they were sharp and clear. however, there is no comparison to maiden. halford's voice was dead on, and i would say that live, he has the best voice out there.... i don't know of too many that can do better. k.k. and glen were on also. the band was overall, great. i would agree that this was a rarities setlist. but being that this is my first time seeing priest, i would have enjoyed more of their radio hits. yeah, i know, i am a puss, but heh, it was my first time seeing them.... they played for just a little over an hour and a half.
i was hoping that with no motorhead, all the bands would have thrown in a couple of more songs.
now, i touched on this subject in another post: why no motorhead?? also i am going to the same venue on 08-24-08 for the crue and buckcherry, and there will be no crue fest (no trapt, no sixx a.m., no papa roach), only the crue and buckcherry.....
anyone with any ideas on why we're getting screwed in connecticut??

They were headlining in Worcester that night as a special guest headliner of that date of the horrible Thrash and Burn Tour. For whatever reason.
