Hallowed, RTTH, and NOTB
Okay, I've been thinking lately that I do a lot of my thinking when it comes to bands and music in terms of Iron Maiden. I almost find it hard to judge some bands objectively because I find myself just comparing their music or shows to the "Maiden equivalent".
Anyway, I've been thinking that when it comes to live setlists, most bands play "their Hallowed", "their Run to the Hills", and "their Number of the Beast". To me this basically means they're gonna play (toward the end of the set or in the encore, usually) their biggest hit (RTTH), their emotional high water mark, generally a longer song (Hallowed), and the song that may not have been a huge hit but is very indicative of the band's sound and has become a live staple (NOTB). Take Flogging Molly's encore, for example: "The Seven Deadly Sins"=RTTH, "Black Friday Rule"=Hallowed, and "What's Left of the Flag"=NOTB. Or the majority of Priest sets: "You've Got Another Thing Comin'"=RTTH, "Beyond the Realms of Death"=Hallowed, and "Breaking the Law"=NOTB. Am I just a crazed Maiden fanboy or is there something to this, and does anyone else think this way?

I think lotsa people must think that!
Raining Blood - RTTH Angel Of Death - NOTB Seasons In The Abyss - Hallowed Very intersting. Excuse me while I go back through all the setlists I've posted to find these songs.

Every band with no balls does this.

This might be a realistic argument, but anytime I'm seeing a band for the first time, I want to hear "their Hallowed, RTTH, and NOTB", and bands should never assume that their whole audience has seen them before. So with bands this formula actually works with (I'd say Opeth, for example, couldn't really do it), they should keep to the code.

Hmmm, interesting way of looking at other band's sets.
Since I'm seeing the Scorpions in 3 days I'll give it try for them. Rock You Like a Hurricane = RTTH The Zoo = HBTN Blackout = NOTB

There's no reason a set shouldn't contain deep album cuts and stuff that's never been played live before---matter of fact, it should. But give everybody three songs they're gonna know, the HBTN, NOTB, and RTTH of the catalog.

You sure you don't mean "Still Loving You" and "Big City Nights," respectively?
