Oh, how I love music festivals. I got to Clinton Lake, parked, and ticket bought by about 2 PM. After a long walk, I finally made it into the HUGE campgrounds. There was like 5 different stages, places to eat, and a bunch of sponsor stuff set up. Awesome. But yeah, I made my way to the Sun Down (main) stage and caught the beginning of Mates Of State.

The only band I've seen before that I can compare Mates of State to would be Architecture in Helsinki, but that's kind of a stretch. It's the White Stripes if the genders were reversed and instead of a guitar it was keyboards. They also brought on a couple of violinists to do some songs. Overall, not too bad. A nice happy way to start off my very first Wakarusa. 7/10

I left about 30 minutes into Mates of State and huffed it all the way across the campgrounds to the Revival Tent and caught the last of some rapper who I think was PAW, but then they segued right into Del tha Funkee Homosapien. He's a pretty good rapper and is really good at what he does, but sometimes the other 3 people on-stage took the light away from him. Kinda wish he would've done more solo stuff, but great overall. 7.5/10

I huffed it all the way back, again, to the Sun Down stage for Built to Spill, but only stayed for one song. Ugh, I just couldn't get into them. It just seemed like the music droned on and on. Not my cup of tea. 5/10

So for the last time of the day, I went all the way back to the Revival Tent (and got on the barrier!), but first I had a hot dog and a strawberry-banana smoothie. Yum, dinner!

In the tent was Blackalicious. My sister had seen them before and really raved about them, so I was excited. They actually opened their set with the one song I know of theres, Alphabet Aerobics. And let me tell you, The Gift Of Gab is one of the most talented rappers around. It's insane how fast he can spit everything out and just make it work. He brought up Lateef The Truth Speaker for some really, really good stuff from the two's upcoming album under the name The Mighty Underdogs. They put on a great show and the crowd was getting really into it. I loved it. 9/10

Made my way back to the Sun Down stage for the final time. It was getting pretty crowded, and FULL of hippies. I learned something today: Play any kind of music (really, ANY KIND) and hippies will dance to it. Not just dance with each other, but dance all over the place. Kind of annoying, but great to laugh at. Up next was Buckethead, and he was crazy! Most of his songs were pretty entertaining. For example, he did Jordan (the song from Guitar Hero 2) and it was just fun because he could do the solo perfectly! The only bad parts were when he slowed the songs down and didn't even solo. What's up with that? Still, he was alright. 7/10

Oh no! I had just sat down when someone came over the microphone and said Cake's flight got delayed, so they would be playing at Midnight at the Revival Tent and Galactic would be playing the Sun Down stage! Oh no! Thankfully, Galactic really wasn't all that bad. They are a jazz/soul-type band. They play instrumental, which was alright, kind of boring, but then they brought up Lateef the Truth Speaker again and those songs were really awesome. In the end, Galactic was pretty good, but I still would have prefered Cake. 7/10

WOO! The Flaming Lips! What can I say? It was pure fun madness while they played. During the first song, they shot confetti into the crowd, streamers, and a bunch of balloons into the crowd. Not to mention that Wayne got in his Zorb ball and went around the audience. The entire time they played was awesome. A couple of things happened that I think The Flaming Lips will never forget: First, they covered the Led Zeppelin song "The Song Remains The Same". Wayne said that this song was about summer and he joked that people could get naked for that song only. But what do you know? Halfway through the song, five butt naked girls come on stage and dance behind Wayne. I don't think he expected that because he kept laughing. (some of the girls were hot too icon_wink.gif ) Second, they were ending a song and someone lit off a roman candle and the reports matched the song perfectly. Wayne said that it was one of the coolest things he'd ever seen at a concert. They played Fight Test, She Don't Use Jelly, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt. 1, and the encore was Do You Realize. I've never seen so much confetti in my life. I saved a piece. 9.5/10

Ta Da!
Race For The Prize
Free Radicals
The Song Remains the Same (with nudity)
Fight Test
Mountainside
Vein of Stars
Yoshimi (Slow Version)
Pompeii
Yeah Yeah Yeah Song
Taps -> The W.A.N.D.
She Don't Use Jelly

Do You Realize??

Edit: Oh yeah, while I was walking back to my car, I went by the Revival Tent and heard Cake do a cover of War Pigs by Black Sabbath. Awesome. icon_smile.gif

I really wanted to see Blackalicious, so maybe that factored into it. Dunno, I just didn't really like what I heard.

Yeah, Built to Spill is great. I only have You In Reverse, but it's a sweet album.
