I'm all for diversity. There're plenty of non-metal records in my top albums of 2007. But like someone already said, shit is shit, and Tegan And Sara is generic, shit teen-pop (although I do appreciate most of you are but kids )

Didn't the Onslaught album come out in '06?

But the only thing they got close to right was getting Primordial and Symphorce in the top 20.

You can tell the top ten is voting for names, the next ten is voting for records.

I know as soon as I weigh in here this is gonna go straight to hell, but I can't help myself:

I don't really see the point in doing a year-end voting album voting thread because there's too few people here and too diverse of tastes, so the results always come out pretty distorted and no one winds up happy. The cliques vote their 1 or 2 albums they love into the top 10, and most everyone bitches about the other stuff.
Contrary to what Brad argued with me on AIM last night, I don't believe the purpose of this list should be to showcase our "diversity" as a board.
As I understand it, a top 10 voting thread is to get a general feel for the best albums of the year through discussing and voting on them... not to become a pissing match for a bunch of hypocritical martyrs for diversity, which is all anything like this ever is on this board.

Isn't that what we did? A couple of anomalies aside, the final list ended up being pretty fucking predictable. Besides, if you ask me, the overall top 10 is almost meaningless, because IMO the purpose of this whole exercise is to get us all to think critically about the music we listened to over the course of the year, and maybe in the process enjoy it more and find things about those albums we didn't notice the first time. And, along the way, discuss and debate the albums we had in common and help people find new things to listen to (there's definitely a few albums on my list that I wouldn't have bothered with if people here hadn't recommended them).

But yeah, I guess none of that matters because a pop album made it in the top 10

I have. Honestly I don't know what it is about the "girl with the acoustic guitar" schtick that I think is cheesy and played out, especially since the only other woman I can think of that's done it is Joan Baez. Now with that being said, I listen to the vocals, and I understand what feel and what sound she's attempting to achieve, but she's missing it just barely. As a result it creates a very grating affect for my ears.

The fact that Megadeth isn't even in the top 25 is a sign of hope imo. Unfortunately, King Diamond being #13 (lololololololololol) kind of shatters that.
