Porcupine Tree
So I was at the store today and I saw Fear of a Blank Planet sitting there. Suddenly I realized I have never listened to any Porcupine Tree, and I have no idea why, since I have heard so much about them. So I bought the CD, and I love it. But now I have 17 years of albums to catch up on. Any suggestions on where to start?

Everyone will say In Absentia, guaranteed. As much as I love it, I don't think it's as good as Stupid Dream (which is a bit more upbeat than most of their other stuff) or Deadwing (which is their most proggy). So basically, all three mentioned, but in any order you'd like, although I recommend Deadwing to Stupid Dream to In Absentia.

Lightbulb Sun is one of my favorites. It's really Floyd-y. Not quite sure how to get it legally though.

I'd start with the following three albms that will give you a good general overview of their changing sounds over the years. First, In Absentia, their best. Next I'd check out Stupid Dream, and finally I'd hit Signify, a great showcase to their more spacey/psychedelic years.
Nearly impossible to find it without being willing to spend a large sum of money. Best bet is to wait for the two disc special edition they will be putting out eventually.

Got Deadwing this morning. Great album! Thanks for the suggestions, I'll get the albums as I can afford them. And I can get Lightbulb Sun when I need it.
Really no idea how I missed this band for so long... |

I can't believe I forgot this, especially if you love Deadwing, I think your next purchase should actually be the Arriving Somewhere... DVD. Phenomenal sound, great set that does a decent job of representing everything post-Stupid Dream, and it has some definitive versions of songs on it. Especially the track from which the DVD gets its name.
