COFFINS/OTESANEK- Split (Parasitic Records)
This well-matched split album featuring Japan's COFFINS and Philadelphia's OTESANEK pairs two acts that go about achieving utter sonic repulsion in slightly different yet equally twisted ways. The sickening death-doom of COFFINS lurches like an even more bludgeoning version of HELLHAMMER, complete with sickly production values and gut-churning riffs. There's a crusty undercurrent to COFFINS' songs that gives them a real kick, as opposed to the monolithic crawl of OTESANEK. OTESANEK get little predictable by typical sludge/drone/doom standards, but that doesn't mean the impenetrable black atmosphere is missing, and that's the only thing that really matters anyways. This stuff is downright vile and will probably make you feel like shit during and after listening to it. The one OTESANEK song on the LP "Narcotic Hues" takes up a solid 21 minutes, while COFFINS lay down three numbers including a stomping cover of GOATLORD's "Acid Orgy". Really pleasant stuff and certainly recommend for the twisted folks in the audience.
