This would be a nearly impossible task for me. I have been going to shows for over twenty years, and I don't have very good records of the early stuff at all. I can list some band names, though - and I will attempt to be thorough, but who the hell knows how many I will forget:

"Early Days"
AC/DC
Motorhead
Overkill
Anthrax
Exodus (twice, I think)
M.O.D. (twice, I think)
Spudmonsters (twice, I think)
Destruction
Slayer - three times (at least)
Death - three times
D.R.I.
Rigor Mortis
Vio-lence
Death Angel
Metallica - three times (at least)
...most of the openers for the above bands, I don't remember - and I'm sure there are even some headliners I've forgotten as well...

"'Non-Metal' Shows"
Depeche Mode - four times, maybe five
Dave Matthews - three times (at least)
U2 - twice (will be three next month - seeing them in Giants Stadium 9/24)
Collective Soul
Sting
Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Pearl Jam
Soundgarden
Beastie Boys
Cypress Hill
House of Pain
Smashing Pumpkins
Jane's Addiction
Rollins Band
Blue Man Group
P.J. Harvey
The Breeders
Tori Amos
The Raveonettes
Queens of the Stone Age

"Modern Era"
Isis (twice)
Tool (twice)
Nine Inch Nails
Meshuggah (twice)
Cynic
Ministry
Origin (twice)
Pig Destroyer (twice)
Keelhaul (twice)
Kylesa (twice)
Withered
Baroness
Lair of the Minotaur
Fuck the Facts
Fully Consumed
Misery Index
Made Out of Babies
Genghis Tron
The Ocean
Nachtmystium
Behemoth
High on Fire
Mono
Boris
Torche
Converge
The Red Chord
Dub Trio

All shit I would like to have seen.
Also what was Crystal Castles like live? A couple of my hip friends have started listening to them. I think they're kinda cool but also uber-trendy.
Notice my use of uber. So in right now.

This never happens to me on a metal board. I like so much different stuff there's always something I have in common with everyone.

Perhaps, but I've always respected your opinions and enjoyed your posts nevertheless.

Plus, we always have Iron Maiden in common. Just because I've never seen them live doesn't mean I'm not a fan - I had several of their albums growing up ("Somewhere in Time"-era), and OF COURSE I had several of their posters hanging on the wall of the basement where I hung out as a kid listening to metal. Maiden had the best posters ever - hands down. I was also a really big Judas Priest fan, but I've never seen them live, either. I didn't get to go to as many shows when I was that age as someone like say, Mankvill. That guy gets AROUND for his age!

I echo Ravenheart's comment above, too. My musical tastes (metal and otherwise) are so damn diverse that I haven't met anyone yet on a discussion board such as this that I didn't have at least something in common with.

Anyway, vive la difference, eh?

Nat

In a word, they are FANTASTIC. They're an electronic duo from Toronto - she sings / screams and he does basically everything else (keyboards, drum programming, samples, etc.). They also have a third dude - a live drummer - for live shows only. What I really like about them is that they have a definite punk edge to them. If you were to amp up the tempo, intensity and lyrics / political content on these guys just a bit, you would basically have Atari Teenage Riot, which is a co-ed hardcore electronic group from Germany that I've always thought were just a whisker short of being actual metal. As you might be able to tell - my second most favorite genre besides metal is electronic - everything from DJ stuff like Oakenfold, Tiesto and Keoki to the album greats like The Crystal Method, Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Daft Punk, The Prodigy, etc. to some of the more obscure stuff like Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, etc.

Anyway, Crystal Castles are definitely trendy and hip and very now, but they are currently a huge favorite of mine in the non-metal category and I would recommend them to anyone who is curious. That, and they put on one HELL of a live show. The chick (Alice) constantly stage dives all over the place, which I'm sure drives her agents nuts because she is pretty much a danger to herself and others half the time. Very punk!

Dude, you just cut & pasted my list. Get your own list - that's not fair.

Needless to say, I like your style.

EDIT: How are Walls of Jericho live? I like Unearth a good deal, and I think they have a very similar sound. Does the chick bring it? Is she the real deal?

That would be Suicide Silence for me. Utter crap. Nothing but breakdowns. I give them credit for being heavy and having a lot of energy, but that's it.

A few of the mallcore bands at Summer Slaughter were pretty much garbage, too - but that's what you get at most modern festival-type shows. Seeing a few bad bands was totally worth it for Origin, Dying Fetus, Darkest Hour, Ensiferum and the mighty Necrophagist live all in one day.
