IRON MAIDEN Confirmed For Next Year's WACKEN OPEN AIR Festival

British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN will play their only German show of 2008 at next year's Wacken Open Air festival, set to take place July 31 - August 2, 2008 in Wacken, Germany. IRON MAIDEN is expected to perform a set focusing on the "Early Days Part 2" period, featuring classic songs like "Powerslave", "Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner" and "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son".

I wonder if I can trick them and divert their plane's course to land in Ohio and get enough people to show up that they think it's Wacken and play anyway.

that sounds quality, i guess there gonna do a world tour cos at there donnington appearence last month said there gonna "come back here (England) and play in a big muddy field, we're gonna leave at year cos we have to build a pyramid" so there obviously gonna focus on powerslave as well as other.

When i saw maiden play the "early years" setlist in 2005, it was probably the best setlist i could imagine, (i've posted it on this forum in setlists n gig reports) and on of the best gigs ive ever seen. Wonder if next years will beat it????

Yeah, like they won't tour the US with a better support package than they have in Europe...

Not if it's anything like this year's.

Festivals aren't real tour dates.

Well, Maiden have had shitty support all over the world lately: Funeral for a Friend? Bullet for My Valentine? Trivium?

Those were all in Europe. They always have shit support in Europe. Although they did have Gamma Ray on some continental shows (not UK).

On Early Days they mostly did fests, but the few support bands they had included Mastodon, Dream Theater a couple of times, Within Temptation a couple of times, In Flames and Dragonforce.

I remember when I saw them with Funeral For A Friend the US had Motorhead and Dio. How is that even legal!?

I've been wanting to go to Wacken for quite some time now but after this announcement I think 2008 will be the year I finally go.

I am travelling to Poland next summer regardless but I will under no circumstance miss this tour (unless I am dead or in a hospital), so if the U.S. dates conflict with my travel schedule I will just see them in Europe.
