Really good article, thought I'd repost it for the interested:

I lose most of my frame of reference after 9, but overall I think this is a decent list. Schuldiner being ousted shows courage I think because people are too quick to give any martyr a free pass. Azagthoth earned it.

With the exception of Nergal, I havent heard of any of the guys (or listened to their bands) past #7.

I'm not sure about Mikael Åkerfeldt being on this list. I think he may be technically the best guitar player on it, but his style really isn't death metal at all.

Am I to extrapolate from this list that whoever was in Possesed is not top 20 material?

No, but Opeth are considered a death metal band. That's probably why he's in there.

At least top 20 guitarists is more worthwhile than doing top 20 death vocalists... it'd just be the first 20 guys they could think of, all tied at #1
