I have enough faith in Amorphis that without even hearing anything of that album yet, I'm still expecting it to place in my year-end top 5. Or #1 for that matter if they really blow my mind.

From metal-archives.com: "This album is based on an episode from Finland's national epic, the 'Kalevala.'"

I am shocked at this novel development!!

I'm looking forward to hearing it.

1.Nocturnal Rites - The 8th Sin
2.Allen/Lande - The Revenge
3.Masterplan - MKII
4.Redemption - The Origins of Ruin
5.Bloodbound - Book of the Dead
6.Symphony X - Paradise Lost
7.Excalion - Waterlines
8.Sinner - Mask of Sanity
9.Saxon - The Inner Sanctum
10.WASP - Dominator

I suppose that's a rough list for now.
I still need to pick up a lot of releases I expect to rank rather well, such as new Pink Cream 69 and Silent Force. Also, many things are still to come which could easily rank quite high for me.

Slightly revised list:

1. Pig Destroyer- Phantom Limb
2. 3 Inches of Blood- Fire Up the Blades
3. Chuck Ragan- Feast or Famine
4. The White Stripes- Icky Thump
5. Tegan & Sara- The Con
6. Clutch- From Beale St. To Oblivion
7. Nine Inch Nails- Year Zero
8. Municipal Waste- The Art of Partying
9. Broadway Calls- Broadway Calls
10. Arcade Fire- Neon Bible

It's been such a great year so far, but it's still REALLY crappy that two of my favorite bands (Bad Religion and Against Me!) came out with albums that rank among the worst albums of their careers

It seems to be a big year for that

Here's my list as of now:

1. Rwake - Voices of Omens
2. Mayhem - Ordo Ad Chao
3. Minsk - The Ritual Fires of Abandonment
4. Neurosis - Given to the Rising
5. Nile - Ithyphallic
6. Blood Freak - Multiplex Massacre
7. Pelican - City of Echoes
8. Pig Destroyer - Phantom Limb
9. Total Fucking Destruction - Zen and the Art of Total Fucking Destruction
10. Type O Negative - Dead Again

There's not much else coming out in 2007 that could shake things up too much... I'm looking forward to the new Baroness and High On Fire, and if it lives up to the hype, Alcest's 2007 album might make it on my list, but I haven't gotten to it yet.

To look on the bright side, though, there are twice as many albums that either met or vastly exceeded my expectations. I just wish BR and AM! had been in that group.

What were you disappointed in?

W.A.S.P. and Manowar for the most part. Also, I wasn't overly thrilled with the new Waste, but I keep meaning to go back and listen again.

1. Porcupine Tree- Fear of a Blank Planet
2. Pig Destroyer- Phantom Limb
3. Clutch- From Beale Street to Oblivion
4. Novembers Doom- The Novella Reservoir
5. 3 Inches of Blood- Fire Up the Blades
6. Type O Negative- Dead Again
7. Rush- Snakes & Arrows
8. Sonata Arctica- Unia
9. King Diamond- Give Me Your Soul...Please
10. Devin Townsend- Ziltoid the Omniscient

I don't feel comfortable putting the new Rwake on here until I buy it and give it enough listens for it to sink in, but that one will be high. And there's definitely gonna be some shaking up of this list when I hear the new Paradise Lost, The Red Chord, Gazpacho, and Blackfield. Not to mention anything that comes out in August through December, since I'm pretty clueless on that general part of the calendar.
