Maryland Deathfest -- Baltimore, MD -- May 26-27, 2007

(Day 1) Saprogenic Foetopsy Flagitious Idiosyncrasy in the Dilapidation Nunwhore Commando 666 Gorod Skitsystem Cock and Ball Torture Rotten Sound Gorerotted General Surgery Regurgitate Vomitory Extreme Noise Terror Brutal Truth (Day 2) Putrescence Exhale Fuck the Facts Jigsore Terror Odious Mortem Retaliation Misery Index Ghoul Birdflesh Cripple Bastards GUT Dead Infection Malevolent Creation Zyklon Holy fucking shit. 2 days of insane fucking grind and death madness, and not a SINGLE bad band. This festival was SO worth all the effort and money. Highlights were: Nunwhore Commando 666: Crazy fucking Germans. They were uh... techno-grindcore. The band wore ski masks and the vocalist wore something resembling a nightgown and some weird ass mask that I can't even describe. Skitsystem: Great Swedish grind, tight and catchy, angry as hell. Cock and Ball Torture: More crazy Germans--pure mosh-worthy grind, complete with extremely low pitch-shifted monster vocals. Extreme Noise Terror: Part of the reason for me going. Phil Vane was apparently sick so he didn't perform, but it was fine. They were fucking awesome, so much energy and intensity coming from old punkers almost old enough to be my dad. Brutal Truth: What can you say? They were wonderful. Rich Hoak is a fucking madman, I've never seen anyone play drums so fast. Retaliation: More great Swedish grind. Misery Index: Great live. Relapse definitely has some strong bands. Ghoul: Ghoul actually disappointed me somewhat. They were the main reason I went to MDF, and after all that anticipation, they played for... 15-20 minutes!? They played 6 songs, 4 of which were from their new album, which isn't as good as the first two. I mean, still, it was Ghoul, so it was fucking killer, but I'm still pissed they cut it so short. Birdflesh: Insane hilarious grindcore from Sweden--the members all wore like, sundresses or nightgowns or something, and the drummer/vocalist wore corpsepaint and one of those Japanese kamikaze bandanas  They were reallllly good.Gut: The same guys from Nunwhore Commando 666 plus a few others doing porno-goregrind. They were nuts, they had a bunch of random people onstage during their set (including skanky scantily-clad drunk chicks dancing, thrashing, and humping around, haha), and yeah... complete mayhem. At some point during the set security showed up near the back of the stage and suddenly the girls were gone, I couldn't really tell what happened... but I heard a bit later that the boyfriend of one of them ended up in a fight with the organizer of the fest and fucked him up pretty good. Malevolent Creation: They should've headlined Day 2 instead of Zyklon. They are death metal legends, and they were really great live... I didn't realize how many big DM breakdowns are in their music, it made for a really fun live show. Rahhh ok I got lazy and I don't really know if all of this makes sense, but I drove home all night and I still haven't slept, so I'm a bit out of my mind right now. Aslkjfdkgdsf.
