Solitude Aeturnus -- Mokena, IL -- April 20th, 2007
Show: Chicago PowerFest 2007
Headliner: Lethal Support: Solitude Aeturnus, Benedictum, Suspyre, Shatter Messiah Venue: The Pearl Room, Mokena, IL Date: April 20th, 2007 ================================================== Show Report: The first night of the Chicago PowerFest had an interesting lineup. Thrash metal, prog metal, traditional metal, doom metal, and melodic metal were all represented. Oddly enough, one thing that PowerFest was lacking was power metal. Still, it was a very good show with a lot of variety. Shatter Messiah played a pretty good thrash set. Suspyre were reminiscent of Symphony X. Benedictum had a very good female vocalist and they did a pretty cool cover of Heaven And Hell that really got the crowd going. Lethal was very good. Their sound is similar to early Queensrÿche and their vocalist sounds a lot like Geoff Tate. But I was there mainly to see Solitude Aeturnus and they did not disappoint. The band sounded very tight even though they were late arriving at the venue and had problems getting their equipment ready. John Perez was a maniac on stage and the guitar solos were excellent. Robert Lowe’s vocals were also very good. They were extremely loud, prompting the venue management to pass them a note telling them that they were too loud. I have never seen that happen at a concert before. Of course, they did not turn the volume down at all. It was definitely one of the loudest shows that I have ever heard. During the opening song, John Perez tripped over his pedal and fell flat on his back. He didn’t move at all for probably 5 seconds and we thought that he had knocked himself out. But he finally got up laughing and carried on with the show. He introduced quite a few of the songs, including “Phantoms,” which he said was off of their worst album “Downfall.” They played a solid set, but I was slightly disappointed that they did not play “Waiting For The Light” from the new CD. I was able to get a set list from one of the tech’s and it had “Falling” listed as the last song, but they had to cut it because they ran out of time. Personal highlights were “The 9th Day: Awakening” and “Sightless,” which John introduced as his favorite song. Solitude Aeturnus Set List: 1. Haunting The Obscure 2. Scent Of Death 3. Destiny Falls To Ruin 4. Sightless 5. Phantoms 6. The 9th Day: Awakening 7. Pawns Of Anger 8. Days Of Prayer 9. Tomorrow's Dead (1 Hour) Lineup: Vocals: Robert Lowe Guitar: John Perez Guitar: Steve Moseley Bass: James Martin Drums: Steve Nichols
