Yeah, I went by the overall quality of music that came out during that time. I mean, yeah, a lot of my favorite bands had their heyday in the 80's, but there was so much boring crap then. The 90's had the kinds of music that influenced me the most when I was growing up.

Them 80's for metal.
Them 70's for prog.

The 80s. A lot of my favorite bands 'peaked' in the 80s like Maiden, Queenrsyche, and Helloween. But also, a good number of prog and metal bands that I thought made their best albums in the 70s (or even the late 60s) continued to make GREAT music in the 80s. And a lot of bands that started out in the 80s, but had yet to reach their greatest musical heights had great starts in the 80s. Also, hair metal wasn't all bad, so STFU .

80s....the 70s didnt really harbor much metal.....the 60s and 70s were experimental, genres were still forming, not really a wide variety of music....

The 80s brought rap, new wave, pop, mainstream country, glam rock, metal that stayed relatively underground, etc.....

DO I NEED TO SAY MORE.??

(the 80's had more bands but the bands of the 70's paved the way for metal and hard rock!)
