I know it's an exceedingly average movie...

(Along with stuff like Goodfellas and Devils Rejects which are my top 2 favorite movies of all time.)
Not really trying to play the age card here (or the lack-of-age card, as it were), but I'm honestly, legitimately curious - how does a guy like you who presumably has no prior history with The Muppets become such a big fan of this movie, and by the sound of it, the whole Muppets franchise? I mean, I would expect a college-age male - and a metal-head, no less - to make fun of a movie like this as being cheesy and silly.

At any rate, whatever the reason, I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. Personally, I think one of the main reasons I liked it at all was that I grew up with them as a kid, like I said previously. If it weren't for that, I probably would have just said the movie was just some corny musical with puppets in it (speaking of which, did anybody else pick up on the fact that Jason Segel's character in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" wrote a musical that had extremely Muppet-like puppets in it? Segel must be a total Muppets freak in real life or something...).

He is. He pitched the movie to Disney, and also wrote and produced it.

Now that you say that, I do remember his name being in the credits for writing and producing. Well, I think it's pretty interesting that he was actually able to get that aspect of his IRL personal interests worked into the character he played in "Sarah".

I'm not old enough to have watched The Muppet Show when it was on, but I was still pretty familiar with them through the movies (Muppet Christmas Carol being my favorite). I think the Muppets have wide appeal because it's family-friendly humor that's not cheap or easy. Old-school slapstick is pretty universal.

Figured I should watch Thor today since The Avengers is coming up. It was pretty good, not great. The action scenes where Thor had his powers were awesome but the bulk of the movie when he was on Earth was pretty silly.

Soon after I finished watching it I saw that people on the internet who got to go to the preview screening were saying that you really need to see Thor more so than any of the other recent Marvel movies in order to understand The Avengers. Makes sense since Loki is supposed to be the main villain.

He also wrote Forgetting Sarah Marshall, so that's why.
