no but seriously, it seems all anime today is "lol riceballs japanese humor overly cute and funny ^_^;;; kawaii" or "SUPER FUCKING SERIOUS THIS IS FUCKING SERIOUS YOU NEED A MASTERS DEGREE IN PHILOSOPHY TO APPRECIATE THE DEPTH OF THIS CARTOON" for me. Sometimes they can strike a really good balance between the two (Trigun, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop) but that hasn't happened in a while.

outlaw star was my favorite when i was a kid. it was simple enough to be fun, but still mature enough to make it awesome. (omg nudity and blood in a cartoon!)
