Puya -- Washington, D.C. -- September 16th, 2014

full review

I went to see Puya (from Puerto Rico)- they had a metal/thrash/rap/"nu metal"/ Latin combination that was interesting. I thought the music groove was good, but couldn't get into the vocals.

Not a big crowd, but people enjoyed it. There were a couple openers but I didn't see them. Merch was hidden until the end

Wow, brings me back to high school. Saw them in 2001 with Fear Factory, Primer 55 and Dry Kill Logic. Those were the days.

Same. I can't even count how many times they opened for FF and for everyone for that matter. Can't believe they're still around.

Who's next Orange 9MM, Pushmonkey, Apartment 26, Drain STH, Hed PE, Taproot, Kilgore, Pitchshifter, Earth Crisis, and Spineshank?

I'm pretty sure 3 or 4 of those are still around

That's a name that takes me back. I'm pretty sure the singer married Tony Iommi and never has to waste her time in a D-level band again.

I'll always remember Kilgore for that terrible cover they did of Walk that was Rob Van Dams theme music in the last few years of ECW. I saw Orange 9mm open for Type O Negative in 1999 but I was so fucked up that night that I remember NOTHING. And I remember a guy in college telling me that Apartment 26 sounded "just like Faith No More". Then I heard a song and realized he was a retard. Wasn't someone famous' son in that band?

I dug/dig Puya. I really like the vibe on their first album. I saw them three times, once with FF as a matter of fact. Missed them on Ozzfest. Apparently they had a horn section. That would have been cool.

I have a Kilgore pick lol from when they opened for FF & Slayer in NYC in 1998.

That ECW soundtrack CD is actually awesome. Bruce Dickinson singing The Zoo (Bam Bam Bigelow) and Dimebag singing Heard It On The X (Francine). Anthrax, Motorhead, Megadeth round it out, not freakin' bad.
