KISS -- Atlanta, GA -- July 18th, 2014

sources: me

It was lightly raining on and off through the entire night, but other than that it weather was good. Some friends of ours had front row seats behind the floor (so technically like 14th or 15th row), and let us switch out a couple of times. First up was Kobra and the Lotus, which my Dad went to go to the seat for to see how the seats were. They were okay, musically they reminded me of Metallica/Megadeath/Judas Priest, but I wasn't a fan of the vocalist. They did a somewhat decent cover of Barracuda, but that was the only song I was familiar with. After their set ended we headed over to the merch booth. Both KISS and DL had plenty of cool looking shirts, and to my surprise DL actually had vintage Pyromania and Hysteria shirts (the pictures of the bands merch for this tour online didn't show them). So I had to get the Pyromania shirt for obvious reasons. After that we made it back just in time for DL to start.

Def Leppard:
We Won't Get Fooled Again (The Who song, with live band outro)
1.Let It Go
2.Animal
3.Foolin'
4.Love Bites
5.Let's Get Rocked
6.Two Steps Behind (Acoustic)
7.Bringin' On The Heartbreak (Acoustic/Electric)
8.Switch 625
9.Hysteria (with Beth by KISS tag at the end)
10.Rocket
11.Armageddon It
12.Pour Some Sugar On Me
Encore:
13.Rock Of Ages
14.Photograph

I know I (and many others) complain about DL's same super boring set choice all the time, but all that aside they are still a great live band. Everyone was real tight through out the night, except Joe who was a little rough towards the end of the set. Still wish they would've opened with Stagefright, still keep Let It Go and throw out Two Steps Behind. Maybe one day they'll come back without a co-headliner. I switched with my Dad to the actually seat during Switch 625, and stayed there for the rest of the night, which made the whole experience that much better. Favorite song? probably Animal.

KISS:
1.Creatures of the Night
2.Deuce
3.Take Me
4.Domino
5.I Was Made for Lovin' You
6.Parasite
7.Young and Wasted
8.C'mon and Love Me
9.Escape From the Island (Eric Solo)
10.Exciter
11.Unholy (Gene Solo)
12.Tears Are Falling
13.Love Gun (Paul Flies)
14.She
15.Makin' Love
16.Jungle
17.Black Diamond
18.Detroit Rock City
(taken from original setlist.fm post)

like that? now for the real setlist:
1.Psycho Circus
2.Deuce
3.Shout It Out Loud
4.War Machine
5.Hotter Than Hell (Gene breathes fire)
6.I Love It Loud
7.Lick It Up (with We Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who bridge)
8.Bass Solo (Gene spits blood and flies)
9.God Of Thunder
10.Hide Your Heart
11.Cold Gin
12.Love Gun (Paul flies out to the audience)
13.Black Diamond
14.Detroit Rock City
15.Rock And Roll All Nite
God Gave Rock & Roll To You II

This was by far (being serious here) the greatest SHOW I've ever seen. I know I've said Bon Jovi is my favorite band, but I realized some time ago that KISS is. They got me into music, and their live show is unequaled to me. Go ahead and go on and on about how I'm a complete idiot for thinking this, but I'm sorry if you have pyro, fireworks, firebreathing, and blood spitting, there's nothing that could top that in my eyes, don't care how energetic any other band is. I would have loved it if they did Christine Sixteen and not God Of Thunder, Makin' Love instead of Lick It Up. and I thought it would be real cool if Gene did his firebreathing during Heaven's On Fire instead of Hotter Than Hell. But all those things aside, it was a phenomenal show. Paul actually sounded really good, there was only one or two times he sounded shaky. Psycho Circus is by far the best concert opener I've ever seen as well. Favorite song was definitely Hide Your Heart (which the audience was singing every word to, to my surprise), mainly because I never thought I would be able to see that song live.

Wow. Really hating you for this. Well played.

Just for a few seconds, all life everywhere was perfect. Young & Wasted, Exciter, Escape From the Island, Creatures, Take Me, Parasite, Tears...close to Utopia...even without The Oath, Love 'em & Leave 'em, Heart of Chrome, Love's a Deadly Weapon, Get All You Can Take, Naked City, Almost Human, and on and on...

I seriously would think they can pull a set like this off as long as Rock And Roll All Nite was added.

Yeah. I saw this show the night before in Nashville, and I thought Kiss was average at best.

Everyone has their #1 favorite band and his happens to be Kiss. I hope he sees other shows cause there are a ton of great rock/metal bands out there. For me personally I remember when the song "Beth" came out in 1976 and when I heard that song I had my mother take me to the local record store the next day and purchase the Destroyer album (yes I am THAT old). I was 7 years old at the time and that is the moment when I got into rock and roll. My first rock show was not until 1981 when I saw Ozzy Osbourne Blizzard of Ozz tour.

So to me Kiss played a huge role in my development (or lack of) towards music. Kiss puts on good theatrical shows. I am seeing them on this Def Leppard tour a few times as well as seeing them in Vegas in November since they are playing Vegas around the time Judas Priest is playing there.

I'm sorry to me if a band has a spider stage, fireworks and pyro on every freakin' song, and more confetti than you will ever see, I don't know of anything that can beat that.
