Why? I went to this last year and I can say that it isn't much different from seeing comedy in a typical venue that high-level comedians like the ones featured on this tour play regularly.

Maybe Gaffigan or Aziz.... but who else is playing really huge venues? I saw Louis CK in a theater and I've seen a lot of these other comics in regular clubs or on festivals in a small comedy tent.

I just don't think venues of this size would be as enjoyable as other types of environments. Personally I'd rather watch a DVD of this tour than actually go to it, even though I really like about 75% of that lineup.

This.

Gaffigan, Aziz, and Louis CK play smallish theaters here and most of these other play tiny comedy clubs.

Seeing a comedian in a theater where its small and you can always see the stage is awesome. Seeing one in a amphitheater where theres 30,000 other people and if you don't buy prime seats you are watching it off a TV screen doesn't sound fun.

The only comedian I know that can still fill a small arena is Robin Williams. Every other comedian that comes to town plays the Wilbur (1,200 capacity), and if they're really big, they'll do a 2 or 3 night stand with shows at 7 and 10PM.

Comedy just isn't meant for arena or amphitheater venues. I look at it like this, Jerry Seinfeld performs in theaters and not arenas even though he can easily sell out large venues on his own. If he isn't playing the big venues then nobody else should be. The same with George Carlin, i'm sure he could've filled arenas to but he stuck to theaters. Comedy is supposed to be an intimate form of entertainment and you just don't get that in an amphitheater.

At the prices they charge, I would rather pay for some overpriced concert instead.

The Irvine lawn tickets are almost 50 bucks.
