Trivium -- Flint, MI -- May 16th, 2014
Since Killswitch Engage played at Rock On The Range last night, their current tour mates in Trivium & Battlecross played a show together at The Machine Shop in Flint.
Devil You Know opened the show. I was really psyched about seeing this new band, but to be honest, it was a bit of a let down. I like their music a lot, but they just didn't really bring the live energy. Their set had its moments (I love the song "My Own"), but their show wasn't anything special.
Devil You Know setlist
A New Beginning
Seven Years Alone
Embracing The Torture
A Mind Insane
Shut It Down
Battlecross was next. They might be one of the best metal bands around right now. No one matches their live show in terms of intensity. If you haven't seen these guys live, what are you waiting for? They killed it in front of their hometown crowd. Highlights were "Never Coming Back," "Beast," & "Force Fed Lies."
Force Fed Lies
Wage a War
Never Coming Back
Flesh & Bone
Push Pull Destroy
Trivium headlined. I remember when their album ASCENDANCY was first breaking big they were one of those cool upcoming metal bands, then about 2 years later it all of a sudden became un-cool to like them because, "Oh, they're just trying to be Metallica." I never understood that comparison at all. I don't think they're like Metallica at all. And besides, if you're going to emulate a metal band, who better than Metallica to try to emulate? They're one of the best live bands of all time, in any genre. Anyway, I've always liked Trivium a lot, ever since I saw them destroy the place as the opening band on the Road Rage tour in 2005 w/ 3 Inches Of Blood, The Agony Scene, & Still Remains. Trivium consistently makes good albums and put on really good live shows. Last night was no exception. They said their next single is "Through Blood & Dirt & Bone," which they just shot a video for. That song was without question the highlight of the whole night. It was also awesome hearing the crowd sing along with "Pull Harder On The Strings of Your Martyr." Another excellent show by Trivium.
Brave This Storm
Like Light to Flies
Built To Fall
A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation
Through Blood & Dirt & Bone
Dying In Your Arms
Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr
Down From The Sky
10/5 Norma Jean
Setlist's length is really a let down to me, and they appeared as headliners. Furthermore, no Ember to Inferno...
