Metal Alliance 2014 -- Seattle, WA -- May 3rd, 2014

Metal Alliance 2014 feat. Behemoth, Goatwhore, 1349, Inquisition, Black Crown Initiate, Drawn & Quartered
Studio Seven (Seattle, WA)
SOLD OUT
May 3rd, 2014

Last night was the final night of the 2014 edition of the Metal Alliance tour, and HOLY SHIT what a fucking show! Studio 7 was beyond capacity and the crowd was absolutely insane!

My lady and I arrived about halfway through Black Crown Initiate's set, unfortunately missing Drawn & Quartered's CRUSHING set. They were pretty cool, but definitely the odd band on the bill. They would be MUCH better suit on a tour with BTBAM or Mastodon or one of those types of bands. The sold out crowd gave them some love after their set, though, and prepared for the rest of the show.

BCI's Set

Next up were the local icons of Seattle, Inquisition. This was the final date of the tour, so it must have felt good for them to know they could just go straight home after their set . They didn't seem to play for very long, and had some sound issues at first, but that didn't stop them from bringing the energy they bring, and the crowd ate it up off the palm of their hand. I honestly didn't recognize many of their songs, guessing it was mainly made up from their new album, and ended up going out to my van to grab a bite to eat and drink while they wrapped up.

Inquisition's Set
(this set is from the Chicago show, but seems very similar to what we got)
Force of the Floating Tomb
Nefarious Dismal Orations
Command of the Dark Crown
Ancient Monumental War Hymn
Those of the Night
Astral Path to Supreme Majesties
Infinite Interstellar Genocide

The fourth band of the night, and the one I was most stoked for, 1349 from Norway. In advance, Frost was NOT their drummer on this tour, but the kid they had with them filled in very well, but seemed so exhausted near the final couple songs, but still filled Frost's shoes SO WELL and almost played everything to a T. I was able to get a good spot up near the front for their set, and from beginning to end they crushed everyone in Seattle, and their new song, "Slaves".... HOLY FUCKING SHIT YES! So thrashy! I was beyond stoked when they started their set with Nekronatalenheten, I hadn't seen that on any previous setlists, so that was a GREAT surprise! They were just amazing and closing out the set with Atomic Chapel was so hypnotizing and epic that everyone really just stood in awe as they came to a close.

1349's Set
Nekronatalenheten (HOOOOOOOOLY SHIT YES!!!!!! )
I Am Abomination
Chasing Dragons
Slaves
Serpentine Sibilance
When I Was Flesh
Atomic Chapel

I kept my spot during the change over (moving back a few steps to the small incline/ledge so I could see better) and was SO READY for the mighty Goatwhore! I had seen them only once previously when they toured with Watain, but I think I missed a chunk of their set and haven't had the chance to see them again since that show, so I wasn't going to miss them this time... and FUCK YES was it worth it! They played for about 50 minutes, but it only felt like 15. They bring so much energy to the stage and, as with Inquisition, the crowd just ate it up! I had no clue their drummer was so godly, every beat, tempo change, everything was just perfect and on time, and the dual vocals between Ben and Sammy were SO awesome to see leave. The crowd absolutely erupted when they ended their energetic set with "Apocalyptic Havoc", and everyone there throw up the horns and screamed along for "WHO NEEDS A GOD, WHEN YOU'VE GOT SATAN!?" They were mindblowing and easily just as good... if not even a little better... than 1349 was.

Goatwhore's Set
(this is taken from another show, but seems like their set didn't change)
The All-Destroying
When Steel and Bone Meet
An End to Nothing
In Deathless Tradition
Baptized in a Storm of Swords
Collapse in Eternal Worth
Baring Teeth For Revolt
Judgement of the Bleeding Crown
Alchemy of the Black Sun Cult
Parasitic Scriptures of the Sacred Word
Apocalyptic Havoc

The final band of the night, the band that everyone seemed to be waiting for, and a band I was a bit skeptical of since they kinda bored me last time, BEHEMOTH. There was a VERY lengthy change over between Goatwhore and them, but when they kicked in, we all knew they were serious. I only stuck around for maybe 4-5 songs, but wow, SO much better than their previous show here (it was at a bigger venue too, so that certainly helped add to the theatrics and energy). I felt the energy slipping when they went from the songs off of The Satanist to their older material, but it was still pretty good. I got worried for a sec during "Conquer All" because it sounded like Inferno was having some difficulties keeping up with the click track and kinda skipped some beats and went into the wrong part for a split second, but he recovered and they continued on.

Behemoth's Set
(I am guessing it was the same set for every show)
Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel
Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer
Conquer All
As Above So Below
Slaves Shall Serve (left during this song)
Christians to the Lions
The Satanist
Ov Fire and the Void
Furor Divinus
Alas, Lord Is Upon Me
At the Left Hand ov God
Chant for Eschaton 2000
Encore:
O Father O Satan O Sun!

Overall this was an absolutely AMAZING concert. Every band really brought it, and the crowd was on fire the entire night, not giving in for a second to the heat or exhaustion! I ended up getting the 1349 tour shirt as well as the Goatwhore "Less White Chapel More Haunting The Chapel" shirt.... because how could I resist?

Show - 10/10
Black Crown Initiate - 6.5/10
Inquisition - 7/10
1349 - 9.5/10
Goatwhore - 10/10
Behemoth (for what I caught) - 8.5/10
