The Wonder Years -- Chicago, IL -- March 10th, 2014

This was day 1 of 2 of The Wonder Year's sold out trek at House Of Blues. Day 2 sold out so quick they added another day.

First up was Modern Baseball and they prove looks can be deceiving. Dorky looking kids playing some fucking kickass pop punk. They are young and were having a blast. Also between songs the banter was awesome. CHECK THEM OUT! Their new record is the tits!

Modern Baseball set :

Tears Over Beers
Broken Cash Machine
Rock Bottom
Charlie Black
Two Good Things
The Weekend
Your Graduation

Next up were Citizen. They were pretty fucking boring honestly. Too much wanna be Title Fight meets slow pop punk meets hardcore. Bored the living shit out of everyone actually. Very few people were interested.

Citizen set :

The Night I Drove Alone
The Summer
Sleep
How Does it Feel?
Roam the Room
Drown

Chicago's very own Real Friends were next and the crowd were amped. Circle pits, moshing, nonstop jumping and crowd surfing was nonstop. The crowd was singing louder than the band many times. Real Friends are so great live and have great energy. Can't wait to see them a third time at Warped.

Real Friends set :

Floorboards
Alexander Supertramp
Skin Deep
Lost Boy
Anchor Down
Dirty Water
Home For Fall
I've Given Up On You
Late Nights In My Car

Up next were Fireworks who replaced Defeater. Never had really listened to them and they did very little to impress me. Crowd was okay for them. Up front was into it but other than that a lot of people watching and looking.

Fireworks set :

Glowing Crosses
Summer
The Wild Bunch
One More Creature Dizzy With Love
Arrows
Teeth
X's On Trees
Flies On Tape
Oh, Why Can't We Start Old And Get Younger
When We Stand On Each Other We Block Out The Sun

Finally the band everyone was dying for hit the stage. The curtain opened, the band walked out and Soupy started singing "There There" and the place went batshit. Nonstop sing alongs all the set and louder than the bat. Crazy pits, surfing and all that. Soupy got into the crowd. Also Soupy has a huge beard now lol. So much energy from the band as always.

The Wonder Years Set :

There, There
Passing Through a Screen Door
Local Man Ruins Everything
Cul-De-Sac
The Bastards, The Vultures, The Wolves
Everything I Own Fits in This Backpack
Washington Square Park
Coffee Eyes
The Devil in My Bloodstream
An Elegy for Baby Blue
I Was Scared and I'm Sorry
Dismantling Summer
Don't Let Me Cave In
Logan Circle
Came Out Swinging

I Just Want to Sell Out My Funeral

Ended up picking up the new Modern Baseball LP and a Citizen 7" and Citizen Patch.

Overall Wonder Years were amazing as usual, Real Friends kick so much ass but Modern Baseball really were super fucking great. Can't wait to see them again!

Citizen is probably the most disappointing modern pop punk band

Citizen isn't pop punk. They started with a pop punk influence (listen to fremont) but shifted their sound (listen to anything on Youth). They kicked ass when I saw em last year and the crowd ate em up cant wait to see em again.

Also why ya buy a Citizen cd and patch if ya didnt like em???

I said I didn't like how slow they were but $5 for a limited edition colored vinyl and patch is a good deal.

I think Modern Baseball is fairly bad, I'm not a fan at all. I haven't listened to much Citizen, and I was never a Fireworks fan. I would love to see The Wonder Years headline, because from what Manky tells me they have NEVER headlined here.
