15. Dead or Alive: Ultimate (Xbox)

A collection of the first two Dead or Alive games updated for the Xbox. This is mainly here because of the second disc, which is the updated version of Dead or Alive 2. Besides the obvious appeal to an adolescent of girls in revealing outfits, the DOA series also has some of the best mechanics in any fighting game series that I've played. Also, the use of non-lethal environmental hazards worked way smoother than with most games in the genres. I'm pretty sure this was also the Dead or Alive that had "Dream On" by Aerosmith in the opening credits that had me on an Aerosmith kick for awhile after first playing it.

Other great games in this series: Dead or Alive 3

This game is the perfect game if you're having a bad day. Peggle is pure, unadulterated happiness. It's just a simple arcade game that involves shooting a ball at some pegs, but it ends up being hours upon hours of fun. Before my 360 decided to delete the majority of my data, I was only two challenges away from completing all of the 75 challenges too.
One of my favorite modern titles. Only thing I had left to achieve was to clear every level of all the pegs!

14. Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2 (N64)

Man, when these came out, I desperately wanted a N64 so I could have these games. My only salvation was a friend who also happened to love Pokemon and had a N64, so naturally I was at his much as much as possible. These games were awesome because they brought a cinematic quality to the battles from the turn based battles experienced in the Gameboy games. The adventure mode in this game is basically the same as the Gameboy games, but with less walking and training. The mini-games sections features a bunch of Mario Party-style mini-games that provide continuous entertainment. My friend and I (same one mentioned above) still bust these out all the time to fuck around in battle mode or do a couple of heated mini-game tournaments.

Nice! I'm glad someone else can appreciate the underrated greatness of Peggle.

13. Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage

I think this series was completely under-appreciated. These were great adventure (I think that's the term for these types of games) games. Ripto's Rage was just about a dragon adventuring through the seasonal realms, collecting orbs and fighting bosses, interspersed with some corny jokes. I remember the game having really cool level design/landscapes for the time as well.

12. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (Plastation 2)

Just about everyone got into a skateboarding game at some point and my first experience was with THPS 2 on N64, but I didn't become enamored with the series until playing this one. THPS 3 had way better maps than the previous game and improved and easier to navigate controls. Before I really got into music too much, I used to alternate playing "Ace of Spades" and "Blitzkrieg Bop" on repeat for hours on end playing this game. The Cruise Ship level was possibly the best level in any of the Tony Hawk games. Darth Maul was a real "what the fuck" as a bonus character though.

Other great games in the series: Tony Hawk's Underground 2, Tony Hawk's Project 8

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 was a very important game in developing my own taste in hip hop and rock/metal outside of siblings/friends influences. Whole series until THUG 2 is just awesome.

11. Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (Xbox)

This is my favorite fighting game of all time. The series came along way from the MKII that my friend and I used to play on SNES and it's all for the better. This game switched to two fighting styles (hand-to-hand and with a weapon) instead of the three fighting styles of the previous two games which made for a nice, healthy median between the simplicity of the old generation and the new. The environmental hazards in this game are pretty awesome as well. Undead Liu Kang is probably my favorite character in any fighting game.

Other great games in the series: MKII

I will say my friends and I spent one whole sleepover playing MK: Armageddon doing tournaments and unlocking everything in the graveyard. It was awesome.
