An interesting concept to have an LOTR game take place outside of the book story lines, but it totally works. The game follows a group that is on a journey somewhat parallel to the Fellowship's. I love the moments where your group of adventurers have random indirect contact with the actual Fellowship such as the cut scene in the Mines of Moria. The game plays a lot like any console RPG (like Final Fantasy) with leveling and turn-based combat and random events and whatnot. After beating the game you unlock "Evil Mode" which lets you reenact the major battles of the story from the opposite perspective which is pretty cool.
Great game, it wasn't in mine just because the combat isn't the best to me.I never finished it though, got stuck at the Witch-King and never got back to it.Glad to see some LOTR love here!

You're not even that much older than me, are you?

Also, ten of the remaining games were released in 2003 or before.

It's just weird. I've yet to see a snes game or a pc game released prior to Windows Vista

Good choices so far! Though your justification for ME is questionable because that game fucking RULES. HARD.

Looking forward to the more old school titles.

My first system was a PS1 in ~'97, so I don't really have much experience with SNES outside of occasionally at friend's houses and I'm not too much of a PC gamer. Diff'rent strokes and such.

19. Saints Row: The Third (Xbox 360)

This game is amazing because it was never afraid to go completely over the top into realms that few video games of its ilk dare to. From beating people to death with giant dildos to the insanity of the Professor Genki minigames to mission in cyberspace to having a character who can only talk through autotune, the game is always ready to explore otherwise uncharted territory. The soundtrack was also surprisingly badass with TBDM, Tyler the Creator, Mastodon, Dethklok and a bunch of good electronic and classical tracks. I haven't played the fourth one yet, but I hear that it pushes the envelope even more and look forward to checking it out in the future.

18. Dead Rising (Xbox 360)

I love Dawn of the Dead, so what's basically a game version of that movie is bound to be one of my favorite games ever. This was my first 360 game and it was months before I got another one, so I spent loads of quality time with this game. First off, the story is actually pretty damn hard as it's "timed" in a way, so if you're not in the right place at the right time, you can't finish the story. The fact that damn near everything in the mall is a weapon provides hours of fun. Want to pie a zombie in the face? You got it. Stick a shower head in a zombie and watch it spout out blood like a fountain? Check. Disembowel a zombie with your bare hands? Why not?

Also, Kent is an annoying cunt.

I received Saints Row 3 for the 360 and...like it was okay but I didn't play it that much. It was on a humble bundle sale for PC a year or so back and I picked it up for dirt cheap and it was just super fucking addicting to me. Great game.

And I love Dead Rising, but I think Dead Rising 2 does everything the first one does, and has way better stuff in it.

I approve of those two picks.

SR3 is awesome and by far the best SR there is. SR4 sucked huge balls.

Dead Rising is awesome and the first one will always be the best, sure DR2 may have did everything better but DR was so groundbreaking and addicting.

17. Peggle (Xbox Live Arcade)

This game is the perfect game if you're having a bad day. Peggle is pure, unadulterated happiness. It's just a simple arcade game that involves shooting a ball at some pegs, but it ends up being hours upon hours of fun. Before my 360 decided to delete the majority of my data, I was only two challenges away from completing all of the 75 challenges too.

16. Crackdown (Xbox 360)

If you can't tell already, I really like a great sandbox game and that's just what Crackdown is. What makes Crackdown shine above a lot of other games of this type is that you have freaking superpowers that gradually become stronger as you advance through the game. The story is pretty straight forward; basically just kick the shit out of the three gangs controlling the three parts of the city, but still fun. The twist at the end is pretty cool as well. The free DLC, "Keys to the City" mode gives you the ability to alter your stats, spawn items and other such nonsense that allow you to cause even more havoc than before and adds plenty more entertainment to an already entertaining game.
