Iced Earth -- Philadelphia, PA -- April 13th, 2002

The other Iced Earth thread reminded me how much i used to dig these guys, and of this show in particular. Found this on setlist.fm, looks correct.

1.The Star-Spangled Banner
2.Violate
3.Pure Evil
4.Wolf
5.Damien
6.The Hunter
7.Melancholy (Holy Martyr)
8.Jack
9.Slave to the Dark
10.A Question of Heaven
11.My Own Savior
12.Watching Over Me
13.Dracula
14.Prophecy
15.Birth of the Wicked
16.The Coming Curse
------------
17.Iced Earth

Also saw this tour the night before at the Birch Hill (RIP) in New Jersey, same set but they also did The Suffering Scarred.

As an added bonus, In Flames was the direct support (when they were still good).

In Flames

1.Bullet Ride
2.Embody the Invisible
3.Artifacts of the Black Rain
4.Clayman
5.Behind Space
6.Clad in Shadows
7.Gyroscope
8.Episode 666
9.Only for the Weak
10.Ordinary Story
11.Pinball Map
12.Colony

After the tour, Anders from in flames came out and said what a total asshole Schaffer was, which is truly, truly shocking.

"I have fucking little love for a certain guy in that band," Anders Fridén told Sweden's premiere rock/metal magazine Close-Up for its March issue, referring to Shaffer. "I'm not the kind of person who talks shit about people — but this isn't bullshit, for that matter — [or the kind of person to] expose someone [in the press]. We supported ICED EARTH in the U.S. and did amazing well. We got a really great response and [Jon] — the rest of the band were cool — was upset, I guess. It ended with him calling us 'spoiled European pussies,' saying that I was a fucking rock star and a lot of other things. I'm fucking far from being a rock star, so I didn't feel guilty, but it was weird how he could make us out to be 'spoiled European pussies.' There were lot of complaints [from Jon], and our part of the stage was getting smaller and smaller, even though we'd sold out some of the venues before on our own. I could barely stand by the mic stand, that's how tight it was between the drum set and me. Then [I had issues with some of] his statements, which are [very] pro-America, to say the least. He talked shit about Swedes and Europeans in front of us and the other support act JAG PANZER, whose drummer [Rikard Stjernquist] is of Swedish descent. The drummer said 'What are you saying? I'm half Swedish,' to which [Jon] responded, 'Yeah, but you've lived in America for a long time, so we're not talking about you.' I've gotten along with everyone we've toured with, and I didn't think it was [that bad], even though we had differences of opinion, but [Jon] is the only person on this planet that I can't stand."

My first Real show was 2 years later. Unfortunately is was Summer Sanitarium, and the only reason I could go is because my brother loved Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park.

I wish I could say my first real show was Iced earth In Flames and Jag Panzer, but nope I have to say it was Summer Shititarium.

I'd pay headlining prices just to see that In Flames set (Clad in Shadows ) let alone to see both bands...

Great tour. I saw them 4/10/2002 in NYC and they played Scarred too, as well as Jeckyl & Hyde (before Watching Over Me).

I saw that tour, pretty sure I it was that setlist, at The Jaxx in Springfield when I was still living in the DC Metro area. Great set, Barlow was so freakin good at that point in time, he was never really the same after he left and came back.

But the part about Jon being an asshole to someone from Europe? Color me surprised...not. I've always felt that Jon came across as kind of a dick, and I know some of that is because you have to be a bit of a dictator as a band leader, but yea, not surprised. Funny that he and Hansi get along so well.

Those comments about Schaffer don't surprise me in the least, and only further confirm things other people have told me about him, including others that have toured with him.
