What is this discussion bullshit doing in my thread

Zach, if "I Woke Up In A New Bugatti" was an album, it would've been at the top of this list. However, seeing as Ace Hood's grand opus transcends both music and art as a whole, one shan't find it fit to be ranked amongst a traditionally ordered "best-of" list. Nay, such a divine source of pleasure must only be placed up against similar creations that will forever stand the test of time. Such cannot be found in the year 2013, a year plagued by impure tyrants with forged birth certification.

Also, to people who found enjoyment/agreement from my list, kudos.

In SubRosa's case, I don't think it's mislabeling at all. Maybe if you're talking about a band like Leeches of Lore it is, but I'm not aware of a common misinterpretation of it. Genre's evolve. Sounds evolve. Not every doom band is going to sound like Saint Vitus or Candlemass. Surely you know this though, so what gives?

If you think SubRosa isn't doom then we're just on very different wavelengths. Or maybe we just disagree on language.
All of this. New SubRosa is one of the best doom albums to crop up in a couple of years. It has been a pretty great year for doom in general though. Avatarium, Batillus, Uzala, Lycus, and Cathedral all released great records.

Who knew a few of these >>> could make this thread so much more intelligent and sarcastic at the same time? Barnes and Noble both approve.

Since the Hipster who compiled Rolling Stone's Top 20 Metal cds loved Melt Banana and chose Sunbather as #1 while calling it Shoegaze, it all becomes relevant in the end. The Mods should change the title of this thread to 13 Monkeys. The long awaited sequel to the movie wrapped in a Xmas box with a nice bow on top. Well Played "Not as Stupid as My Fucking List" guy!

I was referring to the worst review penned in 2013:

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/li...ather-19691231

The same guy/crew/cult rated Melt Banana #17 and called it non-metal I believe.

Like I stated in another thread, not the worst list I saw this year but the readers comments below are 20 times better than the actual cd write ups which totally give the mental image of Ill's Barnes & Noble comment.

Sunbather is part shoegaze.

Metal can take influences from other genres of music.

Jazz/Death metal?

Folk metal?

Post-metal?

Same with black metal with shoegazing influences.

Retro "1970s" rock is hip right now, and a bunch of it is getting lumped together with doom. The likes of Orchid, Scorpion Child, Blues Pills, Zodiac, Graveyard, Witchcraft, et al. They're not doom. They borrow some of the lyrical themes and moods, but that's it.

So, like you say, that stuff is cool, but real doom isn't. Candlemass didn't suddenly see a huge uplift in sales, you know?

That said, Pilgrim and Windhand seem to be quite well regarded at the moment. I think Pilgrim pulled it off just by making a damn good album. Windhand I don't get, because 'Soma' is their most boring music to date. Wouldn't be the first band to get dull and get popular at the same time though.

100% correct. I really wanted to like Windhand after their split with Cough, as they were the better side of the LP but that full length was just disappointing. No one wants to listen to a fucking half hour song at the end of your one dimensional album...fuck off...

I don't think anyone here is. But there are people out there who add the term to an existing sub genre of metal, for whatever reason. At least, that's what I meant in my post.

Metal is such a hard genre to pinpoint what is and what isn't. If you listen to early Black Sabbath is it really "metal"?

Yes.

But good point, nonetheless.
