These guys have become one of my favorite bands over the last year, so I was pumped as fuck for this album and it did not disappoint. This is just some heavy as hell powerviolence/hardcore with the occasional sludgy part. It's not quite as good as Worthless, but it cut out my two complaints with Worthless (the two minutes of needless feedback before the title track and the last song goes on four minutes too long), so that's good enough. Their vocalist, John Hoffman, is like, the total package and shit, cool as fuck dude, awesome lyricist and a vocalist with range (although the guitarist also does a bunch of vocals).

No Idols & No Heroes
S.C.A.B.
You're Not Punk

4.) Abyssal - Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius

This is like a mix of Portal and Incantation, not as out there as Portal, but really murky, foreboding death metal. It borrows a ton of elements from black and doom metal that just increase the terrifying atmosphere this album possesses. This is just a megalith of an album.

This is really the only song I can listen to on its own.The Tongue of the Demagogue. This is more of a listen to all in one sitting album, which is imposing, but so worth it. Full Album

3.) Vastum - Patricidal Lust

My most anticipated album of the year and it didn't disappoint. Vastum dished out another delicious serving of the grimy, death/doom that they are becoming known for. These motherfuckers out-Autopsyed Autopsy on this one! Some of the catchiest riffs of the year paired with terrifying vocals.

Enigma of Disgust
Patricidal Lust
Only ones they had on Youtube, but here's the full album.

2.) Inquisition - Obscure Verses for the Multiverse

RIFFS UPON FUCKING RIFFS! RIFFS FOR FUCKING DAYS! Every riff on here has an almost hypnotic nature to it that just gets me so caught up in the song. You wouldn't think croaky frog vocals would be appealing, but with Inquisition, I really couldn't see enjoying the vocals as much any other way.

Force of the Floating Tomb
Spiritual Plasma Evocation
Master of the Cosmological Black Cauldron

1.) Nails - Abandon All Life

I was a bit reticent of the idea of putting this at number one originally since it's only seventeen minutes of music, but it's the best damn seventeen minutes of music I've heard all year. Whether they're going at grindcore speeds ("In Exodus") or a sludgy dirge ("Suum Cuique"), Nails writes some of the best music I've ever heard. The sheer intensity and hateful nature of the music is mind blowing. Nails also manage to use HM-2s without being derivative of the wave of Entombed-core bands that have came out over the past few years.

A side note: This is also, hands down, my favorite album cover of the year. It's just creepy as fuck in a minimalist way as it's not overtly in-your-face with its imagery. I bought the vinyl (and subsequently started my now growing record collection) for the sold prospect of staring blankly into a bigger version of this cover.

In Exodus
Wide Open Wound
Suum Cuique

FYI: That Abyssal album is free as a digital download on their bandcamp page

I just read about and listened to that album for the first time a couple days ago, but it probably would have made my top 25 if I had heard it in 2013. It was apparently released Jan 1, 2013; don't know how I missed it all year. Really good stuff.

Great list. An unfuckwithable top 3

5 Most Disappointing Albums of 2013

5.) Satyricon - Satyricon

The first two songs were fucking great, but then the record drops off into a complete a total snoozefest.

4.) Tyr - Valkyrja

It's alright, but there's one song that's a direct Amon Amarth rip-off and there's way too much Pantera worship and not enough folk metal left anymore.

3.) In Solitude - Sister

Too much Danzig meets goth rock for me. Gimme the rockin' riffs of the first album.

2.) Watain - The Wild Hunt

To quote a reviewer from Metal Archives, "Nu-Dark Funeral with the heart of Bon Jovi." It sucks when one of the most punishing, kvlt black metal bands with a very consistent catalog start making cock rock/black metal fusion.

1.) Exhumed - Necrocracy

Exhumed went from Reek-Necroticism era Carcass worship to Heartwork worship. This shit is fucking boring. Even the album title sucks.

5 Albums That Would Have Made My List If I'd Heard Them Sooner

5.) Hell - Curse & Chapter

Another solid fuckin' album after their comeback from this reformed NWOBHM band.

The Age of Nefarious (The chorus of this song reminds me of that "Age of Aquarius" song from The Forty Year Old Virgin. )

4.) Melt Banana - Fetch

I didn't check it out until last week because it honestly sounded like something stupid that I'd hate. Weird ass noise rock from Japan, but I dig it.

The Hive

3.) Hela - Broken Cross

Female-fronted stoner/doom from Italy that take what Windhand do, but make it less crushing and have more stoner riffs, but overall better songs.

Flesh Ceremony

2.) Noothgrush/Coffins split

Noothgrush side crushes with all of Noothgrush's signature sludgy goodness. Coffins side doesn't touch anything from The Fleshland or Buried Death, but is still pretty solid death/doom.

Jundland Wastes

1.) Unhuman - Unhuman

Cool tech death from Canada. The vocals or vocal effects or something sound like weird alien crickets at times and it's fucking sweet. Takes some getting used to though. This is the most original tech death I've heard in awhile.

Douces Pensées…

It's not exclusively hipster beer, a shitload of people from all walks of life drink it because it's so fucking cheap. That being said, if you see a hipster drinking beer, it's PBR.

Recently, I was in Cambridge (the hipster capital of Massachusetts for non-MA people) and I saw 3 hipsters in plaid shirts and the trademark hipster glasses each carrying a 30 rack of PBR and i almost pissed myself laughing at all the stereotypes being played out at the same time.

dl'd Abyssal because it was free. Definitely an interesting take on death metal. It doesn't feel as aimless as Portal, but it's still wacky. Probably not gonna love it, but it's good to hear. This thread was super solid man. Only thing wrong was SubRosa not in Top 10

Thanks, man. I really appreciate you and everyone checking it out. Well, to put it in perspective, I listened to a little over 160 albums when I made this thread, so that puts Subrosa in the top 10%. At the end of the day though, I'm just more of a extreme metal guy, so those albums usually win out.

Also, fuck, I completely forgot. This is the album that goes at number 1 on my "Albums that would've made the list if I'd heard them sooner" list. It'd easily be in my top 20.

Cultes Des Ghoules - Henbane

Like a mixture of old horror movies and black metal, but somehow not cheesy in the least bit. Best black metal album of the year behind Inquisition and Agrimonia.

Idylls of the Chosen Damned
