WTF? Definitely didn't see this coming. I always saw Joey as the leader of the band. This really sucks. I'm with you all that feel this is the end of Slipknot. Glad I got to see them on their last tour and 6x overall.

It'll be weird. 2 of the major songwriters were Joey and Paul

Joey is easily replaced, and this is probably not the end of Slipknot. You're forgetting they still have Jim, Mick, Shawn and Corey who are all capable of writing decent songs. It is a bit shocking, certainly, but not that big a deal if you ask me. Band made it over a decade without a major line up change, this shit happens.

Also, part of me believes this is a PR stunt to gather momentum for an 'original line up' tour in a couple of years.

As expected fans are already harassing members of Scar The Martyr blaming them.

The band's statement says they're carrying on and will still do a new album next year, so it's clearly not the end of the band.

Mike Portnoy would quit The Winery Dogs for this opportunity.

I'm definitely surprised by this as well but this certainly doesn't mark the end of the band. With so many members in the band contributing to the songwriting, they should be able to pick up the slack without suffering too much. From an actual drumming standpoint, Joey was definitely extremely talented and without a doubt the most skilled musician in the band. That being said, they can find someone that is of the same skill level to take his place. It definitely sucks but they should be able to recover from this loss.

He's already played with Stone Sour. I wouldn't be surprised, although his tenure with Avenged Sevenfold was ended because the band felt like people focused too much on him.

Maybe they could offer Bill Ward enough money.
