The new Agalloch is not very good at all. The second half is better but the first half just drags.

The new Saor album is really all I'm spinning right now. It's so good.

I'm gonna have to give that Tombs another listen. After spinning it once I thought it was boooooooring. But, their first one didn't do much for me either.

New Dead Congregation is so good. I didn't think they'd be able to follow up Graves of the Archangels so well. Bravo.

Same here, but their previous (second) album was tits. It was #21 on my Best of 2011 list. There's also this incredibly sexy online review for Path of Totality as a reference point. Thus, I think my expectations were a bit too jacked up for this new one, because so far it's just OK to me.

For what it's worth, John Congleton produced the last album, and Erik Rutan did this new one. I like Erik more for his musical ability than his skill as a producer, but John Congleton has won a fucking Grammy, for Pete's sake. Then again, Rutan did do the drum production for Nile's Those Whom the Gods Detest and mixing for Aeon's Path of Fire, both of which were impressive works, so I don't know. Maybe I just need to give the new one a bit more time.
