To be fair, I don't like punk (even though I tried to at one point) or hardcore and I'd be skeptical of the chances of my being turned on to the genre.

Except he's stated he has given it a chance.

He said he tried punk, never hardcore.

Is there a realistic chance that anyone would like hardcore if they dislike punk? I'm sure there are a lot of people who like hardcore that are indifferent/tolerable of old school or "regular" punk, and those who got into hardcore from the get-go before trying punk. And obviously if you like some punk bands and hate others. And yeah I know Thrash and crossover and stuff has punk influences. I'm splitting a lot of hairs here but I guess the fundamental question is "what about punk rock do you dislike", and then maybe he'd like hardcore.

Whatever I don't care I don't like punk other than like Rise Against and Refused.

In my opinion there's a realistic chance if the person's already into death metal but a lot of the time the shift in taste goes into something heavier rather than something that isn't (I.E. somebody that likes punk gets into death metal).

Yes, I got into hardcore before punk and there still aren't a lot of punk bands that are super popular that I don't care for.

But i mean he could like old school beat down hardcore or faster newer faster hardcore. Even melodic hardcore or someone like Cruel Hand which has thrash influences in them.
