Strangely, I really like it even though it worships later BG instead of the early stuff, and I don't like too much after Imaginations.
I'm digging it a lot too.

I start my mine as soon as I've listened to all of the records I really want to listen to in a given year (typically mid-December.) I never get around to absolutely everything I want to, but I try my best to knock out as many records as possible before I start doing my end-of-year thread and other year-end shit for my blog.

Agreed, a step up from Heritage, which I loved.

I just did a review of the album if anyone wants to read it. I'll post it on a new thread of Reviews that I will be doing but I'll post it here anyways:

Well, that sounds pretty good to me, I'm feeling hopeful. After Heritage (which was really mediocre not for its departure from death metal, but for its overall absolute mediocrity) I had pretty much low hopes... but if it sounds less like Heritage and more like a Damnation that isn't afraid to get a bit heavy every now and then, I'll like it. Watershed is actually my favorite post-Blackwater Park Opeth album, soooo... I will be checking it out without apprehension.

Overkill is as other people have said Overkill. I love it though. Some great riffs.

And so the great chasm in the metal world over Opeth will become ever wider in the next couple of months. What did you find mediocre about Heritage?

On a side note, the hate has already blown up all over the place. A lot more praise than what Heritage brought though. I don't really understand why people expected anything less than what this album delivers. It was the next logical step in Opeth's evolution (much like Mastodon). Open minds lead to a better world.
