The great stuff is really great, but there's a lot of middle of the road/bad stuff coming from bands I expect more from.
Yeah one of these does not belong in this group and clearly several notches above the others...

They had a complete discography bundle on their bandcamp page so I had to snag that. Got all 4 of their albums

All in all, I think my top ten in June this year is a stronger list than my top ten was in December last year. And we still have some huge releases due before the end of the year.
I think what I was getting at more is that the big name bands that you would expect to put out great releases aren't while bands you wouldn't expect (Thantifaxath, Nux Vomica, Coffinworm, etc.) are putting out the best stuff this year. I just find it a bit curious since I can't remember a year like this in a long time.

Besides the Cynic record none of these records are bad, just disappointing. I do plan on revisiting the Triptykon record again soon so it might yet end up on my top 10.

Loved the new Agalloch after a while. I think it's just a major grower, more subtle and progressive than anything they've done before. The new Alraune is amazing, best black metal debut since Vattnet Viskar. Catch the stream on Stereogum.
