So I guess I'm gonna be the first guy to come in here and say that I was strongly let down by the new Mastodon album.

I non-ironically thoroughly enjoy the new Body Count record. Just an incredibly entertaining listen with a ton of great riffs and really fun tracks that are a great throwback to the glory days of nu-metal (inb4 nu-metal never had glory days, it always sucked.)

Almost exactly what I posted about it in the "Now Playing Albums Thread"
It's a really good album, VERY entertaining, and the songs are actually really well written! I was worried it may sound a bit novelty, but its a very solid album from start to finish!

Mid June Top 10 and other musings:

1. St. Vincent - St. Vincent
2. White Lung - Deep Fantasy
3. EMA - The Future's Void
4. Ben Frost - A U R O R A
5. Swans - To Be Kind
6. Marissa Nadler - July
7. Thantifaxath - Sacred White Noise
8. Lantlos - Melting Sun
9. Sharon Van Etton - Are We There
10. Warpaint - Warpaint

- I don't know if it's just me but a lot of the most anticipated releases for me this year (Mastodon, Alcest, Cynic, Agalloch, Triptykon) have been really disappointing and metal in general's been a bit down compared to the last few years. The great stuff is really great, but there's a lot of middle of the road/bad stuff coming from bands I expect more from.

- Body Count put out a record that has no business being as legitimately decent as it is.

- Most anticipated releases for the rest of the year include Zola Jesus, Pallbearer, YOB, Shellac, and a record coming out in September I can't say anything about but it'll be the most frightening thing put out in 2014.

- Godzilla had just enough monster to human screen time. Stop complaining.

Same, except I was pleased with new Triptykon but it wasn't exactly what I was hoping for.

For me at least I went in with the wrong intentions. It's a really good record but I wanted a continuation of the last few Tom Warrior records and got something that wasn't that and in turn I'm gonna have to wait a few months and revisit it.

I think the new Triptykon rules. Just keep listening to it. It doesn't have the instant 'wow, holy shit' factor that Eparistera Daimones did, but it's still really, really good.

My mid-year list:

1. Triptykon - Melana Chasmata
2. Saor - Aura
3. Cross Vault - Spectres of Revocable Loss
4. Thantifaxath - Sacred White Noise
5. Cormorant - Earth Diver
6. Moonlit Sailor - We Came From Exploding Stars
7. Profetus - As All Seasons Die
8. Woods of Desolation - As the Stars
9. Ordog - Trail for the Broken
10. Teitanblood - Death

I've tried to give Saor a chance, I really dig the music, but when the really Harsh vocals come in it just feels awkward. :\ . Dude from Panopticon is on drums on it though, so that is a definite plus!

Yeah, and Panopticon has a new album coming out as well. The privileged people that get to listen to these albums before the rest of us say it's amazing.
