Lou Reed Dead at 71

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...at-71-20131027

Yes yes, we all know what a huge joke Lulu has become in the heavy metal community, but Lou Reed was a pioneer and a huge influence on rock music for so long.

RIP

An old friend let me borrow the Velvet Underground and Nico album in 8th grade/freshmen year I believe. I knew it was a ground staple for what was to become of Punk Rock but I didn't expect this(I was thinking more Stooges sound). It was different from anything I was listening to at the time. Its still a strange mesmerizing album. I also freaking loved the album cover. Just a random banana Andy Warhol did. My sis had a lil plush of it on a purse and she gave it to me. I rocked that shit til I lost it at a show. RIP Lou Reed. You were great. Beyond great.

I remember a couple years ago when Lulu was being made there was a thread here that was on the front page every day for, like, a few months. However, I didn't initially click on it because at the time I didn't know who Lou Reed was (or, I think I had heard of him, but I had never listened to The Velvet Underground) and I didn't give a shit about Metallica... in fact, I said as much, and JD, if I remember, was like "...are you serious?" Sadly, yes I was But over the past year The Velvet Underground and Nico has become maybe my favorite album of all time (see avatar). "Heroin" may be one of the greatest songs ever penned. I've never really gotten into his solo material, sadly, but all the same he will be missed. :'(
