MESMUR (Funeral Doom)

Mesmur is a new Funeral Doom project that myself and my guitarist of Dalla Nebbia have put together. Our debut album is set to be released this week (already available in digital form at the link below) through Code666 (Fen, Void of Silence, Negura Bunget) and is already gathering many positive reviews from blogs and zines around world. Here is the "press release" that was posted by Aural Music/Code666 upon our signing...

Quote:
Aural Music is happy to announce the signing of Funeral Doom project MESMUR to our cult sublabel code666.
An echoing thud in the chamber of human suffering, Mesmur tries to capture the sounds of a world that was doomed from the beginning. Blending influences ranging from the funerary dirges of Evoken to the mesmerizing atmosphere of Neurosis, Mesmur shows versatility in a genre where simplicity usually reigns.
On the eponymous debut album, Mesmur weaves five tapestries of dread and despair, totalling about 52 minutes of runtime. Lyrical subject matter ranges from themes of isolation and paranoia, to death and loss, to cosmic cataclysm and the destruction of human society, and the album as a whole carries an almost Lovecraftian feeling of hopelessness for humanity in the face of uncontrollable horrors.
Here’s what mastermind Yixja had to say about signing the contract: “We’re thrilled to be joining forces with the legendary Code666 to release Mesmur’s debut record. I’ve been a fan of the groundbreaking and forward-thinking label for many years, and several of the most prized and influential albums in my collection were released by them. We’re extremely honored and look forward contributing to the Code666 catalogue and sharing our brand of doom metal with the world.

Damn it John, you can't throw at me an album like this at the end of the year when I pretty much made my end of the year list complete. It's just not fair.

Also I tried clicking on the link and it said the album was unavailable. Just wanted to give a heads up.

Oh weird, thanks for the heads up, just hovered over the link and it looks like there is an additional character in it that shouldn't be there but when I go to edit it the character isn't there. I'll see what to do!

This can always go on your redone 2014 list that you'll make in February

Our debut was voted on Metal1.Info as album of the month for December 2014.

I don't know if this site does much with reviewing the more "Mainstream" releases from the month (Taake, Bloodbath, etc etc etc, cannot visit the site from work and no home internet for a while) but to be voted as album of the month!? <waynesworldwerenotworthy.gif>

My friend featured the Mesmur record in his list of cool 2014 stuff he didn't have time to review. Thought I'd share it here.
