Black Sabbath -- Tinley Park, IL -- August 16th, 2013

OK, I know a bunch of people have already reviewed this tour. I just wanted to give my 2 cents.

Great way to kick off a spectacular weekend in Chicago w/ a Black Sabbath show on Friday night. In my opinion they're every bit as important for the history of music as The Beatles. I know they're nowhere near as big as The Beatles, but they were literally the first metal band. NOTHING sounded anything remotely like them when their 1st album came out. I think their first album changed music in that it allowed for bands to be heavy & dark while still allowing them an opportunity for commercial success. They're pretty much a direct influence on every metal band that's come about after them. As musicians they're incredible... great rhythm section, Ozzy is a terrific frontman, and Tony Iommi is still one of the best guitar players on the planet, even to this day. Anyway, on with the show! It was much better than I thought it'd be. In fact it was a fantastic show! I have no complaints at all about it. Solid setlist (including "Black Sabbath" & "Children of the Grave..." HELL YEAH!), and I basically just watched the guitar master Tony Iommi do his thing for 2 hours. WOW, that guy is phenomenal. I'm really glad I went. I hadn't seen Sabbath w/ Ozzy since 2005, and this may be one of my last chances. Setlist:

War Pigs
Into The Void
Under The Sun / Every Day Comes and Goes
Snowblind
Age of Reason
Black Sabbath
Behind The Wall of Sleep
N.I.B.
End of The Beginning
Fairies Wear Boots
Rat Salad / Drum Solo
Iron Man
God Is Dead
Dirty Women
Children of the Grave
--encore--
Paranoid (w/ Sabbath Bloody Sabbath intro jam)

I was there too. Incredible show. Performance wise, I think they were better than Lollapalooza, Ozzy sounded really good throughout almost all of the show - only a few bad notes on Dirty Women. Tony may have messed up some solos too, but overall awesome. Also, during Age of Reason, Ozzy put on a jester hat and was making Tony and Geezer laugh, very funny.

Yeah, I was also there and my sentiments were basically the same. They really exceeded my expectations. Just hearing some of those riffs in a live setting was almost surreal.

All bow for Tony, the undisputed father of metal.

I attended as well. The Jester hat came from a woman I met who saw her first concert ever as a 10 year old and it was Black Sabbath on the first album. We talked for a while and she has seen Sabbath and Ozzy countless times. Pretty cool to meet someone who has been with this band since the beginning. She is in a picture with a Tshirt Quilt she made of a bunch of Ozzy Tshirts she had. It was pretty cool.

Here are a few photos. Great show and amazing to finally meet the man and get some guitar picks from Tony Iommi.

A life highlight for sure.
