I agree with you on this, I've been playing for 6 years and I can only do very basic sweep picking, but even when I do learn to sweep pick very well I definitely know that's not the end of the road, there's still LOTS of techniques and hundreds of different scales to learn.I've met quite a few people that think that sweep picking makes you the master of the guitar.
