LETS GET BACK INTO THIS! Probably won't be posting too much, but will try to do at least a little more.

!T.O.O.H.!
Order and Punishment

Progressive Grindcore

I'd hate to say this, but I had no idea who these guys were prior to getting this album. I had seen their name thrown around here and there, but always just figured they were just another Grindcore band.... could I have been any more wrong?

A couple of months back CM Distro had a sale going where you spend X amount of money and they'll send you a free grab bag. The first bag I got was from Century Media themselves, it was good, some good stuff, but not TOO exciting overall. For my next one I went with the Earache Grab Bag, figuring that it'd be a little more "extreme" or "heavy". While sorting through the albums I got I came across this album by T.O.O.H., "Order and Punishment". I thought it was cool, new music to check out, always heard their name, whatever, fine. I went on YouTube to sample a song to see how it was....

I put the CD in the next morning on my way to work and jammed it right away! It was nothing like I have ever heard, just a generic Grindcore band!? Yeah no! These guys were the most odd and out there thing that I had ever heard, but SO AMAZING. It's really hard to label these guys as any genre.... so I guess the only one that makes perfect sense is "Progressive Grindcore". The vocals do take a bit of time to get used to, but after you get passed that little hurdle then the album just opens up and is incredible. There aren't many albums out there that I would say this about, but this is just a straight up FUN album!

Absu
Sun of Tipareth

Black Thrash

When it comes to Absu it is really hard to pick ONE album that stands out from their catalog. Whether it is their really early death metal material, their later more progressive sound, or their blackened thrash mid-section (they still are black thrash, but just more progressive, IMO). So I decided to go with an album that really stands out as "different" in their list of albums, and one that took forever to grow on me, only to become my most favorite (at the moment) out of their catalog, "Sun of Tipareth".

I used to look over this one and not listen to it very much, but when I saw Absu at MDF two years ago and hearing them open their set with the first two tracks off this album... WOW... I had to revisit the album. It really brings everything that you could ever want from any Absu album: Tasty drumming, killer vocal delivery, great atmosphere, and FALSETTOS . This album also has a cover of "The Coming of War" by the lesser known Death Metal band Morbid Scream (which they covered again on their Third Storm album).

Everything about this album is nearly perfect, and just makes you want to raise your [drink of choice] into the air and headbang along to Proscriptor's snare!

I really cannot pick just one song to check out... so here is the whole album (in great quality for YouTube!)

I'll have to check this out. Never listened to Absu, but they have good taste!

Gallowbraid
Ashen Eidolon (2010)
Atmospheric/Melodic Black Metal

A band that went under the radar for me for FAR TOO LONG. Easily one of the most perfect bands that I have ever heard... ever. Gallowbraid bring a very melodic/atmospheric tone to Black Metal, very similar to Agalloch, but so much better! My way of describing this band to new comers is...

"It's what I want to hear when I listen to Agalloch."
or...
"Imagine all the good energetic catchy parts of Agalloch, and there you go."

Their (or his, which ever way you want to look at it) only release at the moment is a 4 track EP entitled Ashen Eidolon, and it is near perfection. It consists of two 10 minute+ tracks, and two instrumental interludes. I normally just skip the interludes when I listen to this as they don't do much for me, but the songs themselves are just... . I have listened to this disc so much that it skips and has become a bit worn out

The vinyl edition of this release comes with a bonus track which is just as amazing as the other two "normal" songs.

Here ya go! Links to the 3 "real" songs
Ashen Eidolon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XVATLAuYWU
Oak and Aspen - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PR0OzoojEkY (the vocals ath the 8:04 mark are some of the best vocals ever IMO)
Stone of Remembrance - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hd-_oDGdfks
