Backyard BBQ -- St. Petersburg, FL -- May 25th, 2013

My first time going to the annual and free festival here and I was pretty excited for a couple bands, i missed the 2 locals and the first national act.

The Unlikely Candidates - One band i didn't care for, was pretty bored during their whole set, so......yeah.

The Virginmarys - My favorite band of the day that I had previously never listened too, they sounded like a mix between Chevelle and The Black Keys, a very energetic performance, I will definitely have to check out their album(s).

The Features - There wasn't a whole lot going on with this band, they have a light country/rock sound and if you're into that stuff you'll probably enjoy them, their melodies were great, but I'm just not much of a fan of the style.

New Politics - There wasn't much reason for this band to be there, because they were basically a less impressive version of the next band, I mean they were fun and all, but yeah, basically a copycat band.

Twenty One Pilots - By far the best performance of the day, my second time seeing them and they always bring it, their energy and connection with the crowd is unlike any other band I've seen, they're a two man band, a drummer, and the other guy sings, raps, plays piano, uekelaylee and percussion, if you get a chance to see them live I definitely recommend it.

Coheed & Cambria - Second time seeing them in two months, and while i thoroughly enjoyed seeing them again, it was a slight step down from the last time, but they were still great, unfortunately their set was cut almost 20 minutes due to other bands taking their sweet time setting up equipment, which is stupid. Claudio sounds better now than he ever has both with his vocals and guitar playing, they're definitely a band I'd go see live again and again.

Random question, but did New Politics fake it or use backing tracks during their set? I had a friend tell me they did, and that it was so awful and obvious that it ruined their set. It surprised me to hear, since I saw them about two years ago and they totally killed it.
12/15 - Trans-Siberian Orchestra
2/4 - Gojira/Devin Townsend
2/23 - Muse
3/2 - Dropkick Murphys
3/11 - Meshuggah
3/12 - Tenacious D

Both, didn't they used to have a bass player? They don't now and he was really singing but there were backing tracks.
