Suffocation -- Toronto, Ontario -- April 26th, 2013

Suffocation
Support: Jungle Rot, Rings of Saturn, Adimiron, Disgust
Date: Friday April 26th, 2013
Venue: the Annex Wreckroom in Toronto, Ontario
T-Shirt Worn: plain grey

Suffocation? On a Friday? In one of the smaller venues in Toronto? Yes.

I left for the show late and got to the venue almost two hours after doors, so I missed Disgust and Adimiron. I did that on purpose though. I've heard so much death metal in my life that I really didn't care. I was actually hoping to miss most of the openers. It's too bad they didn't bring some better support out on this tour. I caught the tail end of Adimirons set but I don't remember anything.

Rings of Saturn came on after a short change and they didn't do anything for me. A lot of people seem to hate them but I just found them to be too much. Too much wankery, too many sweeps and their songs were too long.

Rings of Saturn
1. ?
2. ?
3. Dingir
4. Immaculate Order
5. Seized and Devoured

After a way too long change (at least forty minutes) Jungle Rot was on next and were the complete opposite of Rings of Saturn; with actual riffs and guitars that only had six strings? I didn't find them anything too special but they were a breath of fresh air after Rings of Saturn. All these new tech-death-noodle-wank bands need to listen to a song like Demon Souls and learn that you don't need a million notes to make death metal. You just need eight and a 4/4 drum beat.

Jungle Rot
1. ?
2. ?
3. Worst Case Scenario
4. ?
5. Face Down
6. I Am Hatred
7. Utter Chaos
8. Gorebag
9. Demon Souls
10. ?

Exhumed aren't allowed in Canada or something. Too bad, a bill with them, Jungle Rot, a local and Suffocation would've suited me fine.

Suffocation made a surprisingly quick switch and started playing when half the audience was outside having a smoke break. And they fucking destroyed. I worry about the Wreckrooms sound every time I go there because every time something else sounds off. But Suffocation sounded awesome. Opening with Thrones of Blood was so wicked and crushing. I was more into the older songs but everything was awesome, with the highlight being Liege of Inveracity. Of the new songs Rapture of Revocation was the best. I can’t say why it just stuck with me more. The crowd was a lot more subdued and calm than I expected. With the Wreckroom being such a small place I was expecting to see bodies flying everywhere and people hanging from the ceiling. Not so much. The crowd was intense but it really only got crazy during Infecting the Crypts. Matters not; this show was awesome and I will always try to see Suffocation live.

Suffocation
1. Thrones of Blood
2. As Grace Descends
3. Catatonia
4. Funeral Inception
5. Rapture of Revocation
6. Liege of Inveracity
7. Pierced from Within
8. Purgatorial Punishment
9. Devoid of Truth
10. Cataclysmic Purification
11. My Demise
12. Infecting the Crypts

So awesome Jungle Rot is playing Gore Bag. Easily one of the best songs they have.

I agree that Suffocation sounded perfect, one of the few times I have had no complaints about the headliner's sound at the Wreck Room.

Disgust were pretty good death metal for locals, you didn't miss anything by skipping Adimiron - very generic and the crowd was not into them at all.

Missing this to see Bison B.C. tonight. It was a pretty hard dilemma.

oooh looks like you guys got more Jungle's Rots cause of Exhumedless.

The song they played in VA after Worst Case Scenario was 'IN THEIR FINEST HOUR' MAN. So it probably was the same here

I have "All Hope is Lost" written in my coles notes beside that song. Is that a lyric from that song?

One thing I forgot to add was how awesome Franks intro to Funeral Inception was. He did a little religious diatribe beforehand (a lot more serious in tone for Frank) about being raised by a church-going family and finished it with "[if there's one thing I learned from all that it's that] 'the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn't exist".

In a yonkers accent.

Epic.
