Mondo Medicale re-recording will never happen haha. The Dead Shall Dead Remain re-record will probably come out sometime sooner than later though, it's pretty much done. I picked up an Impaled shirt at Slaughter by the Water last summer for $10!

Absu - Absu

Full Album

Despite not being a full-on black thrash attack like Tara is, I feel like Absu's self-titled was a re-envisioning for the band. A little bit more held-back, but chock full with more of their weird brand of Absu-styled metal than ever before. I don't think I could ever find another band that sounds exactly like Absu. I still listen to this album all the time and it counts for the same number of scrobbles on my Last.FM as Tara does. Love it so hard.

Megadeth - Rust In Peace

Full Album

The definition of classic thrash album. There's really not a whole lot I can say here. I think I was more excited to see this performed in its entirety than Seasons In The Abyss. Perfect album.

High On Fire - Blessed Black Wings

Full Album

High On Fire at their absolute best, which is really saying something considering the albums that have come since this album. Totally heavy but Matt Pike can still shred. "Cometh Down Hessian" and the title track are two of my favorite songs ever. So amazing.

Mithotyn - King Of The Distant Forest

King Of The Distant Forest
Under The Banner
Hail Me

This is pure, unadulterated viking metal. When someone asks me what a good example of viking metal is, I always point them to this album. Black metal mixed with epic melodies and catchiness...no one does this better than Mithotyn. At all. Title track was one of the first metal songs I ever heard and it's still amazing to listen to all this time later.

Metallica - Master Of Puppets

Full album

I remember reading once that this album was the perfect heavy metal album. And in a way it's true. It's heavy, fast, isntantly memorable, abrasive, melodic, and everything in between. It's definitely not perfect, but that's what makes it the flagship heavy metal album. For the longest time I held Ride The Lightning over this, but I keep finding myself coming back to Puppets more than anything else that Metallica has done. "Disposable Heroes" is the best thrash song that Metallica has ever done and "The Thing That Should Not Be" is one of Metallica's best slower songs. It deserves every ounce of praise (and criticism) that people put on it, but it'll always rise above.

Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast

Full Album

There have been a lot of albums already where I've said something like "Oh, any TRUE metalhead would own this album!" but really, some of those albums wouldn't appeal to every metalhead. Not here. This is a requirement if you like heavy music at all. The perfect amount of heavy riffs and badass attitude coupled with amazing melodies and memorable songs. If you don't own this album: leave the hall.

Nosferatu - Helstar

Full album

To me, it's not Helloween or early Blind Guardian or whoever that put out the best combination of speed metal and power metal - it was this album right here. So unbelievably heavy and chock-full of riffs couples with James Rivera's amazing vocals. Each song is like it's own mini-story full of peaks and valleys and...it's just amazing. Way too underrated.

Skeletonwitch - Beyond The Permafrost

Upon Wings Of Black
Soul Thrashing Black Sorcery
Within My Blood

Skeletonwitch ain't your typical throwback thrash band. Relying on being influenced from blackened thrash acts instead of just another Exodus worship, Beyond The Permafrost is one album that I will never get sick of listening to all the way through. I hope I get to see them do this entire album in its entirety one day. "Within My Blood" is my favorite set-ending song ever and is my most listened to track on last.fm. Seriously amazing (all their stuff is!).

Love this album, probably my third favorite Metallica album
