Slayer - Seasons In The Abyss

War Ensemble
Spirit In Black
Seasons In The Abyss

For the longest time, this was my favorite Slayer album. Perfectly merging their slow, haunting, heavy slow stuff with their breakneck fast thrash, it was he best of both worlds for me. Getting to see them do the album in its entirety was a dream come true. I will never stop air-drumming to War Ensemble.

Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales

Full Album w/ Emperor's Return EP

There's really nothing I can say about this album. It's black metal, thrash metal, death metal, doom metal, punk, rock and roll, and on top of it all - fucking evil. This isn't necessary only if you're into extreme metal - this is necessary if you're into metal at all.

Rage Against The Machine - The Battle Of Los Angeles

Full Album

In high school, before I got into metal, one day I went out and bought all of Rage Against The Machine's albums in one trip. One of the best decisions I've ever made. I don't consider them nu-metal, but they are easily the best band to be associated with that movement/the 90s/early 00s music movement. And I hate to be that guy, but they did get me semi-interested in politics. All their albums are amazing, but Battle of LA is just special.

Radiohead - Amnesiac

Full Album

Yes it's true: I'm one of those hipsters that prefers Amnesiac to Kid A. I just find Amnesiac to have a better flow and overall better better and more experimental songs. It doesn't hurt that Pyramid Song is Radiohead's best song, period.

Sleep - Sleep's Holy Mountain

Full Album

The greatest stoner metal album ever recorded. Not only is it heavy as tits, but it has a hefty dose of rock influence to it as well. Al's bass lines are fucking SICK. It's really hard for me to put on this album and not listen to it the whole way through.

Absu - Absu

Full Album

Despite not being a full-on black thrash attack like Tara is, I feel like Absu's self-titled was a re-envisioning for the band. A little bit more held-back, but chock full with more of their weird brand of Absu-styled metal than ever before. I don't think I could ever find another band that sounds exactly like Absu. I still listen to this album all the time and it counts for the same number of scrobbles on my Last.FM as Tara does. Love it so hard.

Impaled - Death After Life

Mondo Medicale
Resurrectionists
The Dead Shall Dead Remain

This would be my #1 death metal album if At The Gates didn't exist. Their take on Carcass-worshipping melodic death metal is the best I've ever heard. Brutal and catchy as shit. I hope they don't fizzle out and die because of Ghoul.

Seasons was the first Slayer album I ever owned. Bought it and Rust in Peace on the same day back in high school. Awesome.

Impaled won't ever really break up, Ross, Sean, Jason and Raul are all too tight with each other to let that happen. Raul and Jason especially are two super normal and laidback guys, they're perfect foils for Ross and Sean's wackiness. They'll probably never do another album of original material unless the back-catalog becomes insanely popular though.
