Immortal - Pure Holocaust

Full Album

The coldest album ever recorded. Pure black metal that sounds like you're in the middle of a blizzard. Although I love all of Immortal's releases, I don't think they'll ever top this masterpiece.

Dragged Into Sunlight - WidowMaker

This is the album every underground extreme metal band wishes they wrote instead of DIS. Hitting everything from black metal to grindcore to sludge to ambient, it's a fucking terrifyingly beautiful 40-minute journey. My top album of 2012.

Between The Buried And Me - Colors

Full Album

This album is an epic. The multitude of peaks and valleys that this hour-long, 8-part song goes through all make for one hell of a listen. Continually blurring the line between metalcore, progressive metal, rock, jazz-fusion and tons more, Colors is one of the most expansive heavy records ever made. And a must for progressive music fans!

Cattle Decapiation - The Harvest Floor

A Body Farm
The Ripe Beneath The Rind
Regret & The Grave

Just as every bit of good as Monolith Of Inhumanity is, but there's just a certain something that pushes this to the top for me. Maybe it's just a little bit more extreme, just barely more progressive. I don't know, but this is one of the best deathgrind albums ever. Cattle really reinvented themselves with this record and it kicks all of the asses.

Converge - Jane Doe

Full Album

Not only is this album brutal all the way through, but it's deeply emotional and a very personal record. This might be the apex of the old-school metalcore movement, although Converge are pretty much their own genre.

Radiohead - The Bends

Full Album

Radiohead's best 90's album that actually sounds like 90s music. Tons of unique and memorable songs despite mostly being formulaic rock songs. Just shows that although Radiohead is certainly a different beast nowadays, the could write good ole-fashioned rock back in the day.

Windir - Arntor

Full Album

There will never be another band like Windir and there will never be another album like Arntor. It seemlessly blends black metal, folk metal, actual viking metal, and then that sort of medieval dungeon tone that only Windir can do. This is a hell of an album and easily my favorite Windir release.
