I'm guessing Comerica Park. A couple Warped Tours were there. Or how about Hart Plaza where the Detroit Electronic Music Fest and the Downtown Hoedown are?

Incidentally, I just landed back home in the dirty D for the holidays.

I can drive to Detroit in about three hours or so going up through Canada. I might have to think about this one.

According to Crain's Detroit Business, the organizers of METALLICA's Orion Music + More festival are seriously considering Belle Isle as a destination for next year's edition of the two-day concert.

Belle Isle is a 982-acre (1.534 square miles) island park in the Detroit River, between the United States mainland and Canada, managed by the Detroit Recreation Department. It is connected to the rest of Detroit, Michigan by the MacArthur Bridge. It is the largest island city park in the United States and the third largest island in the Detroit River after Grosse Ile and Fighting Island.

Orion Music + More festival will take place on June 8-9, 2013. More details regarding tickets and the lineup for the show will be revealed in February. A teaser trailer for the event has been posted online.

So do tell, aside from "don't go to Detroit", how do I avoid being mugged/injured/killed in the city limits? I'm seriously considering going to this thing...

The Greektown is a shithole, but the MGM ain't too bad.

I might have to hit this up if I'm able. I kinda wanted to go last year, but my wife and I were expecting the twins around that time, so that was a big "fuck no". Maybe I can run into some of you derelicts next summer in the Dirty D...

This sounds awesome. I am very excited that this is something I can reasonably drive to this year.

I recently joined the Denver chapter of the Metallica fan club so that will aid my choice to go to this so that I can go with a group of people

It will honestly also depend on what they do for the two shows set wise. If they are celebrating the 30th and 25th birthday of Kill Em All + ...And Justice for All respectively, then it's a yes
If not, may or may not I ain't rolling in the dough these days

Oh good grief, people, you're not gonna get murdered or mugged if you set foot inside Detroit.
