Megadeth -- Providence, RI -- November 9th, 2012

Just got home from the show.

This was the first stop on the Countdown To Extinction 20th Anniversary Tour.

The line to get into Lupo's was horrendous, so we missed most of the opener Kyng. From the 2 or 3 songs we saw, they were pretty good.

Then after a short break, Megadeth came on. Dave was MUCH "chattier" than he was any other time I have seen them! He kept complaining about "everything going wrong up here tonight", but whatever was wrong, it really wasn't obvious from the audience. The only exception was, ironically, right before "Architecture of Aggression" when a brawl broke out on the floor, and he stopped and kept telling them to stop and "peace" and shaking his head in disgust before the band all walked off the stage. When they came back on after 5 minutes or so, he said "they had planned on a nice flow of songs until the fight broke out and then it was like a chain coming off a bicycle". Oh and right before "Holy Wars" he HAD to make some political comment!

Anyway, a good show - the band was really "on" tonight, especially for a first night of the tour.

I'm debating going to the Palladium show on Sunday night. I didn't go tonight because I was in no mood to drive down 93 during rush hour.

I really hope they switch up a song or 2 in the beginning. Hearing Trust as an opener got old after the first time I saw them.

don't go. i love the music but i can't give this maniac my $ anymore with the increasingly nutso & disgusting comments he makes.

I think I will never pay for Megadeth show again. This cost more than rust/seasons tour which was at an amphitheater this at a venue?

Also set is okay. But congrats to Countdown fans.

Nice. I was hoping he'd switch up Trust / She Wolf / Whose Life but everything that comes after the first few songs is great. Were there painted backdrops like the Rust tour or video screens? How was merch?

Strictly video backdrops (even fake "amps") this time.

I was running late and didn't check out everything at the merch table, but there were 2 CTE 20th Anniversary tour shirts to pick from ($35) and all the other usual stuff.

One thing that was cool was that in the venue lobby there were signs posted with a QR code "for tonight's show", and when you scanned it it had the setlist for the show and some other info as well.

Damn, Dave said he'd have a new stage show for this tour so I was hoping for something cool. Not lame video screens.

Did one of the shirts have this image?:

Yes and No... The one I bought had the "mushroom cloud" image on the front, and the tour info on the back... I'd post pictures, if I could figure out how dammit!
