Municipal Waste -- Cambridge, MA -- October 29th, 2012

I have been anticipating this show ever since I first saw the rumors on here, and my excitement level just kept going up leading up to it. I got pretty nervous that the Hurricane was gonna make the show get cancelled, but luckily they were able to have the show go on as planned ( this was like the only place in all of Cambridge that I saw open, which is crazy). I got to the Middle East around 6:30, and Vektor was set to come on at 7. So, I looked at the merch and killed time until they started. I never really saw the hype based on their recordings, but they blew me away seeing them live. Their music just has this kind of otherworldly-type feeling that sounds like its from outer space. Some of the more proggy/technical parts sounded really cool live. They played for about 25-30 minutes, and got a decent amount of people headbanging, but no real pits formed. The place was still pretty empty at this point though. I'm definitely gonna give these guys another chance, and I'm sure I'll enjoy them more now after their performance. Unfortunately I don't have a set, but they played 5 songs I think? I know they played Fast paced Society and Tetrastructural Minds. I don't want to take guesses based on other setlists, so I'll just say these songs.

Exhumed came on next, and they were so sick! They were the only band on this bill I had seen before, and I think I enjoyed them even more this time around than at Summer Slaughter. Maybe cause it was in a smaller room and I got more into them this time? They focused on shorter, more grind-y songs rather than the longer, more death metal ones. Matt Harvey said since they were on tour with ND and MW they should pllay those songs, and they did fit perfectly with the night. They are the perfect band to see around Haloween too . They had the crazy bloody surgeon come out on stage with the chainsaw, which was awesome. The last song they played was a cover of "Drop Dead" by Siege, which really got the crowd going. Pits in general were okay, but not continuous. Oh and they played for about 30 minutes too.

Exhumed setlist (from setlist.fm), I took this from the NYC show but I think its the same set:
All Guts, No Glory
As Hammer to Anvil
Necrotized
Slaughtercult
Torso
Limb From Limb
Distorted and Twisted to Form
Necromaniac
The Matter of Splatter
Drop Dead (Siege cover)

Napalm Death was up next, and what can I really say? They sounded so intense live, they were even better than I thought they would be (and I had high expectations). They came onstage and kicked right in with a grind assault, pummeling the crowd with insane riffs and blastbeats). Everyone went nuts for them, it was obvious many people were there mostly for them. Also, the place was almost filled at this point, I was shocked at the turnout. They played stuff from a good amount of their albums, and I was pretty happy with the set, especially since they have SO much to choose from. They played for about 50 minutes, which was plenty of time to hear/see everything I could have wanted to. TO be honest, I don't know how much more I could have handled, I can listten to them all day but after 50 minutes in the pit I was wiped out. I can't remember the set exactly, but I took this off setlist.fm and it looks pretty close at least, if it's not exact I'm sorry, I am not good at recalling selists at all haha.

Napalm Death setlist (from setlist.fm):
Circumspect
Errors in the Signals
Everyday Pox
Can't Play, Won't Pay
Protection Racket
Silence Is Deafening
The Wolf I Feed
Fatalist
Practice What You Preach
Quarantined
Dead
Deceiver
When All Is Said and Done
Unchallenged Hate
Nom de Guerre
Suffer the Children
Breed to Breathe
Nazi Punks Fuck Off (Dead Kennedys cover)
Scum
Human Garbage
You Suffer
Instinct of Survival

Municipal Waste headlined this show. This was my first time seeng them, so I was anxious to see them based on everything I had heard about their live shows. When they first started, a lot of people that went outsidehadn't come back in yet, so I was nervous most people left after Napalm Death (sometimes Boston punk/metal fans can be elitists like that). Luckily, by the third song the place was filled again and the crowd was going wild. Municipal Waste just has so much energy onstage, and the crowd and the band totally fed off each other's energy. The pits were going nostop throughout the set, and people were stagediving (the venue tried to get people to stop, but a few people were doing it anyways). I was wiped out after Napalm Death, by my adrenaline kept me going strong throughout MW's set. They played for about an hour, which was the perfect length to hear some great songs and have an amazing time. I hyped this show up so much to myself, that I would have been disappointed if it was nothing short of mind-blowing. With that said, it still totally exceeded my expectations. Allt he bands were so killer, and a great crowd only added to the experience. By far one of the top shows I have been to all year. I say that a lot, but this seriously has to be in the top 4 or 5 this year easily. I left covered in beer, sweat, cuts and bruises, and a chipped tooth, and I wouldn't want it any other way . It's a day later, and I'm still having post-show euphoria haha.
