Fuck yeah man, congratulations! I still got another full year of EE left sadly. This time next year I'm gonna be bouncing off the walls haha.

I am jealous of both of you! I have a year and a half of my first degree left, then another 8 months after that to get my next one. This term in particular has been a lot crazier than any of the others so far

So congrats christopher!

Without them, there would be no Ludicra, Krallice and Wolves in the Throne Room among many many others.
Do you run that site, or do they ask you to do certain pieces? I think a lot of people would be interested in opinion pieces about certain metal scenes or bands or things like that. Personally, whenever I get into an older less talked about band, I search a few forums/websites to see if I can find any discussion about them.

Haha, nah I don't run Invisible Oranges. They are one of the absolute best sites for any kind of music journalism/blogging however. Our own DethMaiden is a contributor there too. I pitched this piece to them months ago before it was even written, and they were down to host it.

What I hope is that this piece will make guys like you, manks, MPF, Maiden33, guys that are really involved in their local scenes as well, want to provide wide coverage for them too. For me, this will probably be the last really large-scale article I ever write. I really had to try hard to avoid stepping on toes and staying respectful with this article, and even then I didn't entirely succeed. When part 3 goes up, I already know that some folks will give me shit for it. That'll be fun haha.

These opinion pieces are fun to write but again, it's hard to do them well without potentially hurting people's feelings or over-stepping your boundaries, especially if you weren't there for the events you're writing about. It's like a metal version of Newton's Law, when you give credit to someone, chances are that someone else will feel like they deserved it instead. And then shit goes awry.

When part 3 is up, I'll write a blurb for everyone here about how the article came to exist in the first place and my adventures in conducting the interviews. That in and of itself makes for a fun story I think.

I only wish a site like Invisible Oranges would ask me to write something.

Speaking of which, I'm going to write a "One Year Later" kinda retrospect on Sunbather this week. It came out a year ago Tuesday.

What's stopping you from writing for IO? Why not email your Sunbather One Year Later thing to them and ask if they'd be interested in putting it up? Either way, I'm definitely interested in reading that. I can't think of another metal album in recent history that's caused such polarizing opinions.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take man.

My enthusiasm for writing this stuff = 100%
My knowledge on how to go about writing for other people = 0%

It's not that I don't want to, I just don't know how to go about doing that.

You email them explaining you're a freelance writer/journalist and ask if they'd be interested in the piece and then explain your piece. Show them your youtube channel because that's where other content is and say you want to get into writing with the video stuff.

Worst case scenario, they don't bother replying.

I'll let you write for my site for the low price of 12 hardcore shirts and some Starbucks Iced Tea.
