Heavy TO -- Toronto, Ontario -- August 11th-12th, 2012
I'm going to keep short cause I'm still so exhausted. Heavy TO for the second year now was a lot of fun. I didn't like how they changed the location of the festival in the park grounds tho. Last years was nice and dry and grassy. This year was all wet and muddy. But whatever, it happens. This year there were a lot less band I was interested in seeing compared to last year (and the combining both days) for day 1 those bands being Gojira, Suicidal Tendencies, In Flames, Marilyn Manson (biggest reason I went this year) for day 2 Goatwhore, Kataklysm, Cannibal Corpse, System Of A Down (2nd biggest reason for going) some bands the surprised me live tho were Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Deftones. So here are the setlist for those bands I just listed
DAY 1!!! Gojira Oroborus The Heaviest Matter In The Universe Backbone Love L'Enfant Sauvage Planned Obsolescence Flying Whales Explosia Trivium Capsizing The Sea In Waves Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr Rain Caustic Are The Ties That Bind Dusk Dismantled A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation Torn Between Scylla & Charybdis Throes Of Perdition Suicidal Tendencies You Can't Bring Me Down Ain't Gonna Take It Institutionalized Freedumb War Inside My Head Subliminal Come Alive Possessed To Skate Cyco Vision How Will I Laugh Tomorrow Pledge Your Allegiance Memories Of Tomorrow In Flames Cloud Connected Trigger Alias Delight & Angers Fear Is The Weakness Only For The Weak Where The Dead Ships Dwell Deliver Us The Quiet Place The Mirror's Truth Take This Life (dedicated to Rob "Rab" Cranny.. Two more stupid bands thinking they can successfully follow Cannibal Corpse on stage.

All wet and muddy doesn't even begin to describe Downsview Park last weekend. Picture a WWI battlefield; That's what it was like. You could not walk without kicking mud at someone or having mud kicked at you. People were slipping in it, sliding in it, moshing in it, fighting in it, literally getiing all covered with mud. People were losing their shoes and walking around barefoot. Any worse and people would get trenchfoot, I swear. They tried to fix the problem on Day 2 by covering the mud with mulch but it didn't really work.
Pretty weak sauce Heavy TO compared to last year. I only really enjoyed Trivium, Slipknot, Fleshgod Apocalypse, and Five Finger Death Punch, and whatever System of a Down played off of Mezmerize (and a few other songs). |

It was definitely pretty sloppy with all the mud but it was fun once you accepted you were bound to get a little dirty. Was glad I had waterproof boots nonetheless.
Here are sets for a few of the bands you missed for Day 2: Exhumed As Hammer to Anvil In the Name of Gore Limb from Limb Distorted and Twisted to Form The Matter of Splatter Decrepit Crescendo The Faceless Coldly Calculated Design Legion of the Serpent Autotheist Movement III: Deconsecrate Xenochrist Eidolon Reality An Autopsy Job For a Cowboy Entombment of a Machine/Embedded Imperium Wolves Unfurling a Darkened Gospel Children of Deceit Regurgitated Disinformation Constitutional Masturbation Veil of Maya 20/200 Divide Paths Unbreakable Crawl Back Winter Is Coming Soon Dark Passenger Pillars It's Not Safe to Swim Today Punisher Overall I had a great time and I think turnout (despite the conditions) was higher than last year.

Even though I still haven't seen Cannibal Corpse, I'm quite happy I didn't go to this. I don't think I could handle another mud-laden festival, especially since there were maybe 5 bands I wanted to see at this one.

Buddy in a wheelchair was crowd surfing a few times, it was crazy. Just a little help with some sets: Trivium didn't play Caustic Are The Ties That Bind, but they did play Down From The Sky, Into The Mouth Of Hell We March, and The Deceived. Gojiras set was: Oroborus The Heaviest Matter In The Universe Backbone Love L'Enfant Sauvage Planned Obsolescence Flying Whales Explosia Cannot wait to see them again Fleshgod Apocalypse: The Hypocrisy The Egoism Thru Our Scars The Forsaking The Betrayal Between The Buried And Me: White Walls Fossil Genera - A Feed From Cloud Mountain Short right? They definatly need more than a half hour set. Looking forward to next year.

I was there this year (didn't go last year because the lineup wasn't that great for me). Mainly wanted to see Slipknot, Gojira (who fucking KILLED it) and In Flames on Day 1 and System, Deftones, Killswitch Engage (best set of the weekend) and Kataklysm (a closed 3rd place, behind KsE and Gojira). I did watch Cancer bats from the guardrail too, and I gotta give it to them for having a lot of energy. I felt they were very underrated throughout the weekend as no one seemed to talk about them going into or during the festival. I'm not a huge fan of their music, but they brought it live, especially their singer. Plus, I strangely enjoy their cover of Sabotage.
The mud made everything so much less enjoyable. The rain on day 1 was annoying, especially with the wind making it feel so fucking cold. The rain did come in handy though when it picked up really heavily during Gojira's set right when they started playing Flying Whales. I thought that was quite fitting. And then I got sunburned on my face on Sunday because i'm stupid and didn't put sunscreen on before heading in, or even during the show.
