What? Film masters are at a much, much higher resolution than Blu-Ray. If they do a proper conversion, it looks just as good as modern films. Apocalypse Now and Bladerunner are two of the best-looking Blu-Rays I have.

So what you're saying is... most people don't bother doing a proper conversion? Because I can't tell any worthwhile difference except that I have to wait a damn sight longer for the thing to load. Not like I can between, say, HD TV broadcasts and regular definition. I do have a blu ray player known to be particularly good at upscaling, though. Honestly though, it makes such little difference, I barely buy blu rays unless they're no more than £1 more expensive than the DVD. I certainly never re-buy anything on blu ray. Not worth it.

What is "really fucking slow to load" to you? A minute? Two? Three?

The beast is in the player itself. I've used my PS3 for all Blu-Rays since 2008 and not once has a disc taken over a minute to boot up. And the BD I watch most frequently is The Shining, which is 34 years old and one of the first BDs ever released. It's especially quick to load since there are no previews or main menus.

Anything above the 5-10 seconds it takes for a DVD to load. Especially if there's no benefit, which there rarely is.

Yea, uh, as someone who doesn't have a Bluray player or any real experience with them, I have to say that if I waited more than 10 seconds I would experience mega-frustration because the media I'm currently used to has acquainted me with no such need for patience.
